I always wondered what the purpose was for these speeches, or really any of the interactions that interrupt gameplay, until I realized something after playing it for the first time. They don't make a whole lot of logical sense, even in universe, but they're there to emulate a movie. It makes it *feel* more cinematic, and coupled with the conversation with your own guys, it makes the scene emulate the feeling of being a part of those LOTR movies you loved. Good grief this game is a masterclass in pacing video game levels.

Also sometimes when you do ghoul, caragor, or graug hunting there's a chance your follower can earn a mount. That's how my tower got his caragor.
