Great tips! Thanks for the workflow. I would just add that one could benefit more from the resulting info by editing the raster's symbology depending on the value range. The Contrast raster, for example, might have the majority of its values no greater than 3 but the few outliers with a value of 15 results in a raster with seemingly little detail. The histogram again is a good tool to find the sweet spot for the min and max values one should have.

Some comments regarding this> 1) Remember that the outputs given by Grass r.recode are in 8 bit format, so if you input a 32 bit image, the output in 8 bit will show an incorrect histogram, even though the recode is correct. You'll need to use the translate toll (Raster>Conversion>Translate (Covert format)>Advanced Options>Output data type) and change it to 16 bit int format or 32 float. Remember that if you put it in 32float format, the histogram will show 0 for decimal values, so I recommend changing it to 16bit int format for a continuous histogram. 2) The r.texture tool might not work depending on the output directory folder you select. So, be sure to try different folders if that is your case. In my case, it worked when I selected my download folder as the output directory folder.

can this be use for identifying tree species? i mean like to know its heterogeneity, tone, colour, shape etc.
