The precedence is already set. Israel has *always* been a settlement, and a unitalteral one at that. How can anyone be surprised that it has gotten so ugly, when it always was? ETA: I do also conceptually support the idea that Israel should continue to exist, but they have to make some broad changes to do that PEACEFULLY and with even a modicum of consideration and respect for their non-Jewish countrymen/citizens and neighbors.
