Giant should give you a choice on rim or disk brakes. I live in the desert. Pr2 wheels are heavy too.

I viewed these bikes today in Perth, Australia the L and XL frames were exactly the same weight (weird I know!) at 10.26kg (22.67lbs) which I think was heavy for a carbon framed bike, the Xl frame in a Fastroad SL1 was 700 grams more at 10.98kg the only thing i don't like is the tektro hydraulic disc brakes and not shimano.

Jason Moyle Most carbón bikes that have disc brakes tend to be heavier ( because of the disc brake system and mineral oil). The fact that both frames weighed the same is weird. Were both weighed without accessories ( pedals)? Yep, we prefer Shimano too

Jason Moyle But, are they the same price? Not all carbon on all bikes are the same. Manufacturers, decide how much resin carbon ratio to put in a bike and then price it with the components in mind. That’s how they get different levels of bikes, like pro, advanced and so on and so forth

Jason Moyle In our opinion we have found that in most cases (not all) Giant usually has better bang for the buck. In some cases the bike might weigh more but have better components than a competitor

@@MiddletownCycling Yes that is true but i really don't know why there went with the cheap tektro hydraulic disc brakes instead of shimano 160mm rotors puts a tarnish on the whole thing.

I want to know if you have disassembled this 2022 Model Fastroad for maintenance. Is its frame bottom bracket full carbon? Or like other old Giant products, the ADV-level carbon frame bottom bracket is a pre-embedded with metal sleeve. It is very bad if it uses metal sleeve because metal sleeve is not compatible with Ridea Carbon BB or Other Thread Together BB like Token.

@Middletown cycling nice video. I just got the Toughroad SLR 2 from my LBS here in Michigan instead of the AR1 cuz these Michigan roads are terrible. Not many videos on the tube at all about the Toughroad models. Awesome bike :)) anyways I don't see any bolts or mounts for a kickstand on the Toughroad SLR 2 bike. Do you think there is any way possible to mount a kickstand on there? I love my kickstands but bummer :( it's the 2020 model btw. Shops not open cuz of this death virus thing going around which I hope they find a vaccine and what not for soon

@@MiddletownCycling I just bought the 2021 Giant Fastroad Advanced 1. I dont feel less road vibration vs my 30lb Gary Fisher Aluminum bike. Not smoother plus the seat is too hard and the handlebars aren't high enough. If the store had allowed me to try it out before paying for it I wouldn't have bought it.

Hassan N we would not recommend this bike off road. You could technically do some small dirt road but don’t push it. Some people have changed out the tires and put tires that have tread on them, that would help a little more but it’s mostly to be used on the paved roads

Giant call it a composite frame who really knows if its carbon fibre or not, believe me its not light that is for sure, also it has very poor tektro hydraulic disc brakes! should be shimano.

Jason, thanks for commenting! Yes, the frame on this bike is carbon fiber, but the main advantage of the composite frame on this bike is not feather weight, but rather stiffness and road vibration dampening. Due to the complex lay up process that each frame goes through, these bikes will enjoy the power transfer of an aluminum frame without the harshness that can accompany it. Hi Jason! We thank you for editing your comment as it gives us a chance to highlight another great feature on this bike! Actually this bike is not spec'd with tektro brakes, but rather TRP. Giant has a great history of building bikes intelligently and price consciously. These brakes, which BikeRadar.com described as having "Excellent power and modulation, good lever feel, competitive weight, wide compatibility with existing brake levers, impressive heat capacity" are another example of this practice. For the price point and the intended usage of this model, we personally feel that this is an excellent fit! We have sold quite a few of these bikes and our customers haven't had any problems with their brakes, but if you have some first hand knowledge of these, we'd love to hear your input! @@jasonswift7098 Goodmorning! I was confused at first by your post, being that I have this exact bike in my showroom now and went to double check the spec before I responded. The model for the US market is in fact spec'd with TRP brakes, the Australian market got the Tektro brakes. I can't speak to Giant's motives for differentiating between national markets, but I'm glad that you did your homework, seeing that you are clearly passionate about this topic. On a related topic, Giant dealers are usually very accommodating when it comes to customer satisfaction. If any customer is interested in the bike but would like to upgrade the brakes, I'm sure that the dealer will be willing to work with them. Again, thanks for your input!

​@@MiddletownCycling Is there actually a difference here? Looking on the Australian spec sheet it has 'Tektro TKD-84' while the US site has 'TRP TKD-84'. I would have thought the actual brakes were the same, just one site has gone with the division name 'TRP' (Tektro Racing Products) while the other has just gone with 'Tektro'. I could be mistaken, not an expert here. I'm less concerned about TRP vs Shimano brakes, but I'd be put off by a manufacturer cutting corners in the Australian market / models.
