Fascinating. The Lada 1500ES was supplied by the dealer from whom I bought my first Lada in about 1983, Biddulph Motors, owned by Mr Ratcliffe. The Romanian Oltcit is certainly a rarity, unlike the Dacias of that era it was not officially sold in the UK.

So good to see the Oltcit has survived . I remember working on it and was impressed with it's overall condition at the time although parts finding was a challenge .

My three take home are 1, the bronze Cortina GXL , gorgeous, 2, The two tone Rover P4 a true gentleman's carriage. And 3 the green two door Volvo Amazon. I had the pleasure of driving one from Auckland to Wellington NZ way back in 1987. Completed the journey with no problems.

As per the blue MGB at 3:30, it's amazing how many you see where the owners have refitted the front indicator/sidelight units upside down 😂 There's always one at any show I go to, and it infuriates me!

Hi 👋 That Romanian Oltcit car is interesting. It looked like a Citroen Visa. I have never seen one and had no idea that Romania manufactured a car. Very rare indeed.
@TheRichardSpearman10 ай бұрын
The main Romanian link from the 1960s was with Renault, branded there and for export, as Dacia.

For me that quality Rover P4 110 in two-tone grey eclipsed everything else. In answer to your question, the proportions of the 4-door Morris Minor are superior to the 2-door. I seem to remember that the green of this example was quite common on the roads of my youth. Thanks for another excellent video!

That looked like a nice day out despite the weather forecast, The Volvo 1800 has always been one of my favourites. I like the green Amazon as well. I like the one from Kenya a very nice example. I am sure I have seen one back in the day with the split window. The Oltcit looked very Citroen Visa. My Dad had a Mk3 Cortina Estate 2Ltr. I think it may have been a GL but that GXL did look very similar, the seats on Dads car had square insets that seems to be the only difference. The car was on a K plate so quite a while ago though my Dad didn't buy it new. Thanks Rick for taking us along, 👍👍

In fairness to the met office we did get rain later in the day, but while we were at the show it was fine, just very breezy! Thanks for watching

I don't think Ford built a Cortina GXL Estate but I think the later 2000E model was available as one.

@@levelcrossing150 Yes your probably right on both of your points. The car I referred to was 'the next best thing' to a GXL. 👍
@levelcrossing150 Жыл бұрын
@@stephenricketts7764Your dad's car sounds like the XL which was a nice spec car and an interior closer the GXL. The most significant difference was the single headlights instead of the twin lights on the GXL.
@stephenricketts7764 Жыл бұрын
@@levelcrossing150 Yes what was 'the spanner in the works' is that the car had the extra two high beam lights. They looked a bit like after market but I know they where part of the loom. My brother decided to pull the engine and box out of it some years later and rebuild the engine. Don't know why the car was still hanging around? He put the engine in another MK 3 which was "done up' but only had a 1300 block. Just so it all worked correctly I put the whole front loom in the other car including the 'extra ' lights. So with the 'mist of time ' thats where I was getting confused 😕. Hope that makes sense. 👍

I am the owner of the Oltcit. The original car came to England around 2007. She was recently saved from a scrapyard in devastating condition, with a donor and lot of work she is back on the road. More Oltcit coming.

Good afternoon Rick. So many wonderful cars EXCEPT that Land Rover. Having driven so many kilometres in Land Rovers (often toeing the standard army trailers) I was appalled to see what he had done. However it takes all sorts. I had never heard of the Olcit until Neil had them on HubNut. It may well have been his because I think he had a red one and a white one in his garage, so maybr they both went to make one car. My favourite version of the Cortina is the mark 2, I have owned a Mk1 GT 1500 but that was about 40 years ago.

Volvo was one of the first vehicles with 4 wheel disc brakes. one of the first incorporating Ghirling disc brakes only used in racing . Had a 68 and had to replace all 4 rotors and pistons. In the states at that time those had to be imported and there was a wait cause of oil embargos back in the 70s.

You could buy a brand new Lada way back when for £3,500 on the road. They were more popular than people give them credit for. The main downside was that they literally fell to pieces even though they were made of quite heavy grade steel but that was of dubious quality. My brother bought one new, claret with a black vinyl roof and after around 6 months the drivers door just fell off. That estate is truly a survivor. I passed my driving test on an Hillman Imp and I still feel they are underrated. Go on buy a Merc., I love them.

An old Merc is definitely on the "possibles" list, I'd really like a stacked-headlamp saloon or a fintail but good ones are getting pricey

Great Content & Great Commentary but excessive pointing and a continual hand "flashing" across the screen in the video. OK if you're pointing out certain features & details of a car, but not constantly pointing & hand appearing in the video. Just a suggestion.
