thank you this was a very good starting point to understand OSC relative to a much more common and known protocol (MIDI) I am trying to learn more about OSC and i was having a hard time to find information that would clearly define what it actually is.

What is the difference between MIDI vs OSC vs REST vs RPC?

MIDI is meant for musical instruments. Outside of music it has a limited use case as it is based on a less general/abstract approach and is instead optimized for interoperability, speed and size. OSC is more generalized but also primarily targeted at music. It has a large address space (string names instead of numeric channels) and can send dynamic messages. So it does have some use cases outside music as it can also be used to control lights etc. REST and RPC are completely different as they are not targeted at music and aren't even a protocol. Instead they are more a concept of communicating over a network. In REST you basically tell the server whenever you modify some state (Like adding a message, deleting a message, changing a message, etc.). RPC is just the idea of calling a specific function (piece of code) remotely with some arguments and some result.
