The one thing I have learned in 26 years of music production is money spent to increase the following: 1. The quality of your room (room treatment) and monitoring, 2. Your efficiency (efficiency= increasing computer power/ reduction in time requirements/decreases power conception/eliminates redundancy/increase storage&backup capabilities/allows for expansion and growth), and 3. less cabling is money well spent. This is a great master class for MIDI planning.

One issue I had once with midi and usb connected simultaneously was a midi message loop , so notes were fired even when nothing was triggered by sequencers or controllers. So midi channel setup is crucial not only on the devices but also on your DAW

Next question professor 😂 I have a Behringer Crave Analog Bass line Synth just picked up. Where would you put it? I am using a Keystep pro like your setup as the master clock, Roland TR-6S for my drum machine. I have similar setup based on your drawing using Kenton merge-4 and thru-5 boxes. The 6S Drum machine midi thru goes to the Kenton thru-5 box which feeds my synths. The Crave luckily has physical in/out/thru ports on it.
@splootyvision3 күн бұрын
Hi again 🙂, it's often a bit of trial and error depending on how you want your gear to interact with one another. I would say to connect the Crave directly to one of the ports on the Kenton Thru is safest bet. Reason say that is I've read/heard issues with the 'Soft Thru' implementation on some Behringer synths being a bit iffy, so it might not work as expected if you try to pass signals 'thru' it. Not sure exactly how you're connecting everything, but if you wanted to say then use the sequencer on the Crave to sequence other synths you could possibly loop it back round in to the KS Pro MIDI In and run two midi cables out of the KS Pro with the second MIDI Out set to Thru, then the KS pro signal and clock would flow out the MIDI Out, but the Crave signal would loop round and out the Thru Port and back out your other synths. This would require a merge box to merge the two midi cables coming from the KS Pro. As say its usually a bit of experimentation to get the signal paths right depending on how much flexibility you want in what controls what. If you just want the Crave to either be triggered by the KS Pro and/or just use it's own sequencer then as suggested at the start, just connect it direct to the Thru Box :-)
@splootyvision3 күн бұрын
Apologies just an add on as I remembered something after responding. If you ran the Crave back into the KS Pro, you don't necessarily need to use both MIDI Out ports with a merge as I said, because the KS Pro has a trick up its sleeve where it can almost act like a MIDI patch bay. For example, if you had say track 1 set to trigger one of the boutiques, you could set the Output Channel to the Boutique and the Input Channel to the same as the Crave and then the Crave would trigger the boutique (effectively Crave triggering the KS Pro which in turn triggers the boutique). Whether that's useful or not ? but thought drop it in there :-)

Thank you for this and your other videos - incredibly clear and helpful and very relevant to my set up! I'm also trying to get a hybrid set up. At the moment I only really use a daw to record audio so would be very interested to see your video on recording midi into a daw. I originally used a cheap midi thru/merge box from gear4music to link everything up but it developed problems (it could have been midi feedback issues?) and it could only work directly with 4 devices so also relied on some daisy chaining. I now have 2 midi controllers connected out only to a kenton thru 12 box. In order to merge the 2 midi controller outputs, I bought a midi y splitter cable to go into the single midi in port on the kenton box. However, this might have been a mistake as I occasionally get stuck notes, and I think it might be that the midi data is getting a bit scrambled by the splitter cable as it's essentially working it was desgned to split/duplicate the signal rather than merge, so I need to get a proper merge box. I use an arturia keystep as master clock, but as the clock signal is only sent when either the keystep sequencer or arpeggiator are running it starts everything together which can of course be very useful but can also be annoying if you didn't want it to! I have set things up so my volcas can start on a completely empty sequence if necessary but you still need to physically stop the volca sequencer if you want to play it live. I really should go into the keystep settings to see if there is anything I can do about this but if you or anyone else know how to just output a clock signal without sequencer transport controls that would be great! Cheers!
@splootyvision2 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks, Yep you really need a merger like I have in my set up - the midi controllers got to a merge box and then 'thru' the drum machine and onto a thru box that branches out to the synths. Y Splitters are okay for simple duplication of a signal but not for merging (I use one so that I can send the signal from my FCB1010 to both a thru box and the MIDI in on my audio interface). If you get a merger, get one one with 'midi filtering' capability which will also help solve your clock/start/stop issue. I have a DOREMiDi Merge 5 Pro with 'filtering' (about £50) which merges 5 ins to 2 outs and has a software editor that allows you to program the box and filter things out, so for example you can filter out the start/stop messages from the Keystep so they never reach the other synths (the clock signal though would continue through 'unharmed' 🙂). You just plug the merge box into a USB and open the software editor to program the box, once any changes are saved, they are saved the box itself and you don't need the USB attached anymore (but as it's usb powered you might just leave it plugged into the PC or a powered USB hub anyhow). Another would say fits the bill is the CME U6MIDIPro - which is a 3 in 3 out Thru/Merge/Filter and is only about £40, like the DORE it has a software editor where you can filter midi messages. Hope that all helps. Cheers, Graeme :-)

Recently moved from thru boxes and a very nice "intelligent" retrokits merge/thru to the MioXL. What tipped me over was wanting more divices with a dedicated in/out for older devices i want to dump sounds to/from via sysex. So far very happy and having less issues with midi loops. To note... the issue with the usb ports is that they are MIDI only hence why you can't update firmware or use editors as you would through a usb hub (for devices that require that). Its a nice piece of kit though and easy to filter data to different synths. Still a lot to learn though and think I'll still need my thru boxes! 😂🙂

It all pretty much works the same whether the PC is on or off/no settings need changing on anything (other than my MODX that I have to switch from MIDI to USB and turn Local control on or off). Basically I’ve got all my hardware synths set to MIDI channels 1-6, Guitar Rig VST on 7, Vocal effects unit on 8, a drum VST on channel 9, the TR8S on channel 10 and then various VSTs on channels 11-16 that I’ve grouped by ‘maker’ e.g Arturia on Channel 11, Spectrasonics on Channel 12, Korg on channel 13 etc. I can swap the instruments in and out but the channels remain the same. Basically I’m using all 16 channels with everything able to be played from and switched between using the Keystep Pro, Keystep 37 or Keylab 61 - which are easy to change channels on the fly so they can trigger different things 🙂

Thank you for this very useful video. Questions: 1/ if you use a "regular" full keyboard instead of the Keysteps why not using a Beatstep instead ? 2/ can a simple sequencer like Korg SQ1 substitute for Keysteps ?
@splootyvision2 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks. I tend to use the Keystep Pro and Keystep 37 while sitting at the desk to generate ideas and do use their keyboards. The KS Pro sequences 4 tracks and the KS37 can sequence one, with a second played live over the top - so effectively I can get something going utilising all 6 hardware synths. If I want to generate a more complex sequence that spans more than the 37 keys, then I tend to use the synth itself so I don’t have to keep octave shifting the Keystep up and down (also I tend to record sequences in ‘real-time’ rather than ‘step-recording’. In terms of something like an SQ1, it’s pretty limited as can only run either 2 x 8 step sequences or 1 x 16 step sequencer, whereas the Keystep are both 64 step sequences - the KS Pro can have 16 x 64 step sequences per track and the KS37 can store 8 x 64 step sequences, so much more powerful than the SQ1. Predominantly I use them for jamming live for fun and as I say fleshing out ideas - when it comes to proper recording everything is sequenced in the DAW (sometimes by recording the sequences in from the Keysteps). Hope that made some sort of sense 🙂

@splootyvision2 ай бұрын
Hi - the Beatstep only has 3 tracks (2 tracks plus a drum track), whereas the Pro has 4 tracks and one of them can either be a sequence or a drum track) - all in its more powerful than the beatstep as far as I'm aware and also I prefer keys to pads for programming or playing sequences (I'm a pianist 🙂 and never got my head round playing notes on pads other than for drums). You do however get more knobs on the Beatstep meaning greater control over parameters like cc's if you want. I suppose its the usual different horses for different courses and comes down to personal preference. Cheers.

But I have more than enough keyboards ( Kurzweil SP4, Bass Station 2 , DeepMind 12 and Seaboard Roli 49 first gen... and a Yamaha upright silent series piano), that's why I asked this question. Actually I use the Kurzweil as MIDI keyboard master to which I added Korg SQ1 and an old Boss Pedal GT3. I also have a Behringer 2600 and a small Moog Werkstatt, plus a Alesis SR18 as a drum machine. I use a MIDI interface ESI M8U eX 16-Port, but I have been disappointed by it since the USB inputs are only a HUB they don't interact with the other MIDI inputs, unlike the 3 examples you showed (Motu, Mio and Conductive Labs) I regret not having bought the Conductive Lab, but the ESI was much cheaper, and I didn't anticipate this false USB connection, but it helps by avoiding daisy chaining. Something to share for people not making the same mistake. Main issues for me are synchronizing everything and incorporating the Seaboard (I assume I might use a USB-B splitter and a small Kenton MIDI box) We are moving soon and I will reconnect everything, at that point, may I ask for some advices for improving my setting? I watched the video and I’m still struggling with how to make everything work in my setup since I’m new to this analogue world. I have a scarlett focusrite 4i4 as the audio interface, 1 korg sq-64 sequencer and 4 synths; korg minilogue, korg volca drum, behringer model d and behringer edge. I would like to set the sq-64 as the main clock source connecting it to the computer via a usb micro to use it in Ableton, to then, set 4 midi channel with and external instrument midi effect in each one of them. My objective is being able to jam with the computer using ableton as a sort of mixer of the 4 channels while at the same being capable of controlling each instrument with the sequencer and the computer at the same time but I don’t know how to route everything, which cables and cases to buy and how to set the things inside ableton.
@splootyvision5 күн бұрын
Hi, I’ll try to help if I can. How you hook it all up depends on whether you just want to record the audio into Ableton, whether you want to record the midi data as well and whether you want to be able to record all the synths at the same time or just one at a time. Apologies for fairly long winded answer but this is the way I would probably do it: Connect the sq64 to the 4 synths using a Thru Box: You’ll need a 3.5mm “Type A” TRS to MIDI cable to connect from the “mini” midi out on the SQ64 to the 5pin MIDI in on a Thru box. You’ll need a Thru Box (I’d suggest a ‘CME MIDI THRU 5 WC’, plenty of other options though) Connect 4 of the MIDI Outs form the Thru box to the MIDI In on each synth using standard 5 pin MIDI cables and then set each synth to a different MIDI channel e.g. Minilogue Channel 1, Model D Channel 2, Edge Channel3, Volca Drum Channel 10. The Minilogue should already be defaulted to Channel1 and the Volca defaulted to Channel 10, so you just need to change the 2 Behringer synths channels using the dip switches on the back. Then set the MIDI Clock for the Minilogue, the Edge and the Volca to either ‘MIDI’ or ‘AUTO’ - Not Internal. This way they will use the incoming MIDI clock signal rather than their own. Again the Miniloge clock settings will be in the Edit menu, the Edge has a clock switch on the front to set it to MIDI and for the Volca hold the ‘FUNC’ button and turn on the Volca then press Key 6 so it lights up (this will put the clock into Auto mode and the press ‘REC’ button to save settings. Connect the audio from each synth to a small desktop mixer (something like a MOUKEY MAMX3 is cheap and should do the trick, again plenty of other options as well). You’ll need a ¼ inch TS cable from each of the Minilogue, and Model D Audio Outputs to 2 mono inputs on the mixer You’ll need a 3.5mm TS to ¼ inch mono cable from the VCA on the Edge to a mono input on the mixer And then you’ll need a 3.5mm TRS to dual ¼ inch jack cable to connect from the headphone socket of the VOLCA to 2 stereo inputs on the mixer. The reason I suggest using a small mixer is because the 4i4 only has 4 inputs, but the Volca outputs in stereo (I believe) and therefore you need 5 inputs (3 for the Minilogue/Edge/Model D and 2 for the VOLCA) Connect the L+R main outputs of the mixer to the 2 main inputs on the front of the audio interface using standard ¼ inch audio cables. This will sum the total output of the mixer (i.e. the sound from all your synths) into the mixer. Connect the audio interface to the computer via USB. In terms of DAW I don’t have Ableton, but if you set up an audio track and then choose the 1+2 outputs from your Interface as the Audio input for the Track (they should show up automatically in your DAW) and set the output for the track as ‘Stereo Out’. You should then be able to record the output of the mixer into your DAW. If you want to record the synths to separate audio tracks you would need to do them one by one e.g. set up an audio track as above and turn down all the synths on the mixer except the one you want to record. Then set up another audio track and repeat for a different synth. Finally you can connect the SQ64, Minilogue, Edge and Model D to the computer via usb using a powered usb hub. This will allow you to record MIDI data from these into MIDI tracks on your DAW if you want to in addition to audio (PS I don’t believe the Volca outputs MIDI) All told therefore you would need (if I’ve counted correctly) 3.5mm Type A TRS to MIDI Cable (to connect sq64 to midi thru box) MIDI Thru Box (e.g. CME Thru 5 WC) 4 x 5pin MIDI Cables (to connect midi thru box to synths) 4 x ¼ inch TS cables (Connect Minilogue and Model D to Mixer) 1 x 3.5mm TS to ¼ inch Mono cable (Connect Edge to Mixer) 1 x 3.5mm TRS to Dual 1.4 inch cable (Connect Volca to Mixer) Desktop Mixer (e.g. MOUKEY MAMX3) 5 USB cables (for the interface, sq64, edge, minilogue and model d) Powered USB hub (I use an RSHTECH Powered 7 port hub) Hope that all helps, feel free to get back to me if any issues and if easier can contact me on splootyvision@gmail.com. Cheers 🙂

@@splootyvision Thanks you so much for the answer, !! this definitely helped me understand more about the topic and it's also a solution to what I want but I would also like to know if I can sort of skip the "analog mixer" and the midi thru box. And, instead connect the midi out from the scarlett 4i4 to the midi in of the sq-64 by using (x1) 3.5mm TRS Midi type A cable with a 5 pin MIDI cable, just so I can set the daw and the sq 64 as the masters and the 4 synths as slaves. Then, I can use (x5) 3.5mm TRS type A midi cables with (x5) 5 pin midi cables to connect the: - midi out 1 (sq-64) to the midi in of the model D - midi out 2 (sq-64) to the midi in of the korg minilogue - sync out (sq-64) to the sync in of the korg volca drum - gate 1 (sq-64) to the midi in of the behringer edge since the D track of the sq-64 is supposed to be for drum machines. In regards to the audio routing, I don't mind using the "headphone" socket of the korg volca drum as a mono output to 1 of the line inputs of the scarlett 4i4, because If I'm not mistaken the kick and snare can be mono while the hi hats and toms in stereo, and since I'm not using an analog mixer and instead, ableton as digital mixer, I can record hi hats and toms from the volca drum in mono through 2 different audio tracks by muting the kick and snare in the synth, that way I can make them stereo by using different audio effects vst's. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say because english is not my main language and its gets sort of confusing when I'm trying to explain myself.
@splootyvision4 күн бұрын
Hi - That should work but I would say, no real need to connect the SQ64 to the 4i4 via midi cable, just connect it direct to the computer via USB (as it does MIDI over USB and also powers the unit). Apologies hadn't realised the sq64 had 2 MIDI Outs, which if combine this with the MIDI thru on the Model D means can do away with a Thru Box. So rather than using the Gate 1, I would say: MIDI Out 1 SQ64 to MIDI In Minilogue (Type A TRS to 5pin MIDI) MIDI Out 2 SQ64 to MIDI In Model D (Type A TRS to 5 pin MIDI) MIDI thru from Model D to MIDI In Edge (Std 5 pin MIDI) Sync Out Sq64 to Sync In Volca Drums (3.5mm patch cable) So now all you need is: 2 x Type A TRS to 5pin MIDI 1 x std 5pin MIDI 1 x 3.5mm patch cable. Optional and recommend as before is to then also connect the Minilogue, Model D and Edge to computer via USB for MIDI data, so you can also sequence data in Ableton and trigger/play it back on the synths. (easiest way would be to connect the sq64 and the synths to a single powered usb hub) Set the MIDI Channels on each unit as before (e.g. 1,2,3 and 10) and then set channels on sq64 for tracks A-D to correspond to each synth. If you're okay with the drums in mono then yes above should work. This will also have advantage that you will be able to get separate audio tracks into your DAW for each synth, rather than the summed track from a mixer). In Ableton you can then set up 4 audio tracks and for each one assign the audio input (your audio interface should should show up in the drop downs choices as 4 separate mono inputs). Cheers :-)

There is a bit of a myth about MIDI Thru ports and latency, in that it really isn't an issue as you're only talking a few microseconds and some say 'Soft Thru' adds more latency as the signal is effectively being 'processed' by software inside the unit and then passed on, but again I've not noticed this. For example in my set up there are points where I effectively have 8 devices in a daisy chain e.g. Keystep Pro -> Keystep 37 -> Merge Box -> TR-8S -> Thru Box -> Deepmind12 -> Neutron -> Pro-1. If I play a sequence on the Pro-1 using the Keystep Pro it effectively passes thru 6 other devices to get to the Pro-1 (with some using Soft Thru and some just std Thru) and is perfectly in time🙂. I would just try it and see, you won't break anything, but as I say should work fine for your 4 boutiques. Cheers :-)

I have it in mind that I would like to have an external synth connected to 2 MIDI controllers. The idea is to have a 61 key controller for software use, as I have Logic Pro 11 and NI Komplete Ultimate 15. Along with a 88 key controller of some sort to have the weighted action. I like how the M-Audio Oxygen series has the "smart" Scale, Chord and Arp features. With those 3 connected, I'd like to play the sounds of the external synth, using the 88 key while having the ability to implement the Scale, Chord and Arp features of the 61 key into the playback/recording of the sounds. Do you know if it's possible to control external synths while using those "smart" features, but playing the keys on another MIDI controller/synth. Example: running ext synth into a 61 key synth controller (with smart features) & from there into a 88 weighted key to play the sounds while using the smart scale/chord/arp features of the 61 key?

Hi there, can't say for certain as I don't have the MAudio, but my gut would say Yes that is possible. I have a Keystep 37 that has similar functions and I am able to trigger that using another keyboard. For example in my set up I can say play my MODX8, which triggers the KS 37 which in turn triggers whatever I want it to (hardware or software). This means I can use the chord mode on the Keystep but by playing the keys on the MODX, which is the sort of thing you are trying to achieve. Just as some suggestions, other than the Maudio and an 88 key controller, depending on budget and needs; Given you have NI Utimate then the NI Kontrol 88 would fit perfectly and fully integrate with your software allowing full control from the Keyboard - it also has scale, chord and arp functions (but quite expensive). The Keystep 37 that I have, has scale, chord and arp - but also a sequencer that can store up to eight sequences and some unique stuff like 'strum' mode for the chords. It also has the ability to play a different synth over the top of a sequence from another synth (virtual or hardware). The Keystep Pro - similar to the 37 but allows you to sequence 4 tracks at once as well as have scale, chord and arp functions. Cheers 🙂.

Great vi de o. Kenton midi thru 25 is excellent. Can recommend. Can you explain the benefit of midi merge please? Cheers
@splootyvision2 ай бұрын
@@ManCalledMif Hi and thanks. MIDI merge is great when you have multiple devices that you want to feed to a single input. In my example I’ve got 4 midi controllers going in to the merge and then one output combining all 4 signals goes on to the drum machine which goes to the thru box and out to all the hardware. This means I can control any piece of hardware with anyone one of the 4 midi controllers. Without the Merger this wouldn’t be possible. Another case example might be if I had 4 old vintage synths with MIDI, but no USB. I could connect them to the Merge Box and then the single output of that to the single MIDI input on my audio interface. This would allow me to record the midi data from those vintage synths into my computer and…if I then connected the MIDI out of the audio interface to a thru box I could send the midi signals from the computer back out to the vintage synths. Hope that helps and made sense. Cheers 🙂

@@splootyvision if I understood correctly I could record the MIDI data into the computer while performing live. MIDI controllers to MERGE to audio interface to DAW to MIDI THRU to hardware synths/drum machines (with audio recorded into the DAW or a mixer/sd card)
@splootyvision2 ай бұрын
Hi, sort of depends on what trying to do. The synths need to be connected to the computer in order to record the MIDI, not just the MIDI controllers. Not sure on your set up, but basically if you connected the synths to the merge box and then that into the midi on the audio interface, when you play them you can record the MIDI notes played into your DAW and if you run the midi out of the audio interface back to a thru box and back out to the synths, when you play back the recorded midi in your DAW it will trigger the synths (you'll need to set up and configure midi tracks in your daw accordingly with the inputs and outputs as the audio interface and the midi channels set to whatever each synth is set to). If they are 'desktop synths' played via midi controllers then a little different/more complicated. You should be able to run the MIDI controllers to the Merge box, but would also need to run the Synths to the merge box (I think), run the merge to the audio/midi interface and onto the PC via USB. Then MIDI out from audio/midi interface to a thru box and back out to the synths. This should enable you to set up routing in your DAW so that the MIDI controllers can trigger the synths and record the MIDI data, but without a DAW it wouldn't work as there would be no direct link between the controllers and the synths. Not sure if that made sense, but happy to give some pointers if let me know what gear you've got, what's you want controlling what and how you envisage it all working together. Cheers, Graeme :-)

@@briankeithwaters You’ll need a ‘Merge’ box for that. Tbh I’d have a look at the CME U6Midi Pro it’s a 3in 3out and can do merge, thru and filter. Comes with free software that you use to program what you want it to do (very simple software), once programmed it doesn’t have to be tethered to a computer. It also requires a power supply (usb to mains adapter or to pc), whereas the Quadra Merge is self powered via the midi cables - but it’s about a third of the price of the Quadra merge (£40 for the CME vs about £120 for the Quadra Merge). @@user-xd1qr9lg6v Hi - something I’d have to look into, tbh I don’t use SysEx - but something been meaning to investigate more. What DAW are you using - I know in Cubase there are the bank and program selector boxes where you can enter the values for a preset. For example my Deepmind 12 has 8 banks of 128 presets, so if I set up a midi track assigned to the Deepmind and put say 3 and 24, when I load up the Cubase project it will automatically set the Deepmind to the 24th preset in the third bank. Would assume other DAWS have similar capability.

Can you help me figure out how to hook my pile of gear up? i've got a k2500sx for controller, k2500rs w/ kdfx for main synth/sampler, 2x bcr2000's, KP3, and a DDrum DDT. My only usb>midi right now is a Mio1. Can i daisychain all this together for a hybrid setup or do i need some sort of hub? And is there any point in trying to use the k2500sx as a synth and controller, or just a controller?
@splootyvisionАй бұрын
If you've got a load of older gear without USB and you want to record MIDI data in a DAW, then Yes you would need a 'midi interface'. Daisy chaining won't work as you need to have both the ins and outs connected on each synth to send MIDI data to the computer and to receive it back and also the MIDI interface then allows the computer to recognise each device as a separate midi input. The three I show in the video (MOTU, MRCC and MioXL) would do the trick, but they do also do smaller versions with 4 or 5 midi in/out and there are other brands out there as well. Basically you plug the midi in and the midi out from each synth into the interface and then plug that into the computer via a single USB. Then either using a software editor that comes with the interface or by pressing buttons on the unit itself you program how you want everything routed. PS. Would seem a waste to just use the k2500 as a controller as it is a synthesizer in its own right ?, so I would use it as both. Effectively I would just determine how many midi connections you need (you'll need an IN and an OUT for each synth for two way communication) and then look for an interface that gives you enough connections. These interfaces also operate standalone, so you can have everything routed for 'playing live' without a pc involved, but when want to record the midi data into a DAW, have that option as well :-)

Could I do all of this with only Widi Master?

All I can say is, possibly. Never used it myself, but might be concerned about latency depending on how many devices trying to connect together and no idea how all the thru/merge functions would work. Sorry can't help any more than that 😞

@ well I tested it and doesn’t seem to promising. I need to say that latency is no issue at all and sending and receiving midi messages all works perfectly well. Hi ! I have a midi keyboard with 73 keys I would like to control my Keystep Pro with. The thing is, when I play on the midi keyboard, all 4 Tracks of the Keystep Pro are triggered, when I would like only the activated tracks to be triggered. (all the MIDI INPUTS for my tracks are set on the same midi channel, which is the MIDI OUT channel of my midi keyboard) Is this something you are dealing with, using your technique ? Cheers !
@splootyvision11 күн бұрын
Hi, I'm not using a MIDI keyboard to trigger the Keystep Pro, I'm using the individual hardware synths, so each track on the Keystep Pro is receiving a different midi channel as its input. With your set up your MIDI keyboard is outputting on say Channel 1 and then all the inputs on the KS Pro are also set to Channel 1, so they will all sound at the same time, regardless of where the midi outs from the KS pro are going. You need to differentiate the channels for each of the track inputs, I'm also assuming here that the KS Pro's MIDI Out for each track is connected to 4 different synths / or VSTs on 4 different channels ? A question would be, what MIDI Keyboard are you using, I have an old Keylab 61 and if I was using that to drive the KS Pro, I would have the tracks on the KS Pro set on Channels 1,2,3 and 4 and then would just change the MIDI Channel output on the Keylab 61 to correspond with whatever track I wanted to play (I also actually have some 'memory' buttons set up on the front panel so that Button 1 is Channel1, Button 2 is channel 2 etc to make changing channels quicker and easier without having to dive into menus - many other midi keyboards have similar functionality). Cheers, Graeme

Just in addition to the previous reply I'm assuming your set up is MIDI Out from MIDI Keyboard to MIDI In on Keystep Pro, then MIDI OUT of Keystep Pro to the MIDI In of 4 different synths / or just to 4 separate VSTs via USB ?

Get the MRCC Mioxl has crap support and the limitations make it crap. MRCC no bullshit. Now here comes the questions. Watched this video 6 times. I am type 5 dawless as right now. I have a way to get to the daw via A/D D\A via arturia 16 and 8 pre & BLA revolution 8. Thats another a question for future video. So here is the question why is the TR8S not sending clock into the Keystep pro and then into the quadra thru out? so here is the deal i would love to do this config im gonna mention but i understand why you do it your way. MIDRINOME MASTER CLOCK 5 pin midi send> TR8S master stop start midi in from midrinome, midi send from TR8S to quadra thru or a Yamaha MJC8 ( own it but never used yet) was told it a 1 in 8 thru. I got to do more research. Then one midi out to 3 quadea thru going 2 x keystep pros + 1 Beatstep pro giving me 12 channels only issue is max is 4 voice on the Keystep and beatstep pro. So how would you sequence 16 channels at once in sync ❤
@splootyvision2 ай бұрын
Hi there, if check out my MIDI Clock video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ63pnagm6lpitUsi=vHwgUpfYsMOVMXyJ hopefully might explain it a little more. Basically the Keysteps only send out MIDI Clock when they're sequencers/arpeggiators are armed (set to play). And I wanted to be able to use the TR8S as master clock for my other hardware with inbuilt sequencers like my PolyBrute, Matrixbrute and MODX8+ when I wasn't using the Keysteps. With my current set up, the TR8S acts as master clock, but when I arm the Keystep it overrides the drum machine and becomes the master clock (and indeed I can then override the Keystep with the clock from my DAW which would then sync everything). For your set up it looks like it makes sense to have the TR8S at the start as the master, although not sure the purpose of the Midrinome - could just use the TR8S as the master ?. So I would say TR8S to thru box, thru box out to Keystep/beatsteps and then assume they are all then connected out to various synths/modules some other thru boxes ?. Ideal solution might be the TR8S, the Keysteps and all the synths into and out of something like an MRCC and then just route everything internally how you want it ? In terms of sequencing 16 tracks, well I suppose another KS Pro ? or you could start looking at things like MPC One, Elektron Digitakt, Novation Circuit tracks which are all 8 track sequencers I believe, so adding one of those would allow up to 20 tracks sequenced at once :-) Hope that helps. Cheers, Graeme

I have everything set to clock midi on all units ksp is sending midi out. I cant get my Tr8s to co operate lately . I had to go old school to my yamaha rx5 and sy1 behringer. And use ksp to trigger drums. Off rx5 sy1. What sequencers dont have key limitations for sequencing chords ksp limits to 4 notes per step. Ive seen another device by Kilpatrick carbon midi does 6? Is work around to this 2 diff seq sent to same synth say 2 ksp on same midi channel one playing right hand and one left? The Midronome is an midi master clock zero midi clock Jitter and 110% stable clock turns all into midi slaves. It also wont allow a unit to drift what so ever. All my poly synths 1 dual jpo8 1 dual ju06a i have swing 32 for these so ill have 2 dedicated just to these then Hydraynth deluxe, emu Proteus 1& 2, Micromonsta 2 , and my Dual Pro800. So if i follow what the other vids say all of these have sequencers build in except hydrasynth. I need the swing 32 to operate a round robin box to send keys to each roland dual pack i have. The rest of my setup is dual tb303, a matrix brute. TORO, Minitaur and model d behringer. So lastly what are the correct settings on tr8s to recieve or send auto? I cant get it to play nice
