midiphy wirescanner - DIY graphical IDC and micromatch cable tester

Did you ever experience dodgy IDC cables, e.g. eurorack power cables? Here's a small project for your peace of mind :).
The midiphy wirescanner allows visual diagnostics of your DIY (or also commercially bought) IDC or micromatch ribbon cables.
It should be a very useful tool for your electronics lab - and is highly recommended, if you're building a midiphy SEQ v4+, or the upcoming midiphy MatriX! :)

Cool but useless for me. I have 34 line DIY's. Also the shortage indication is not well solved. The numbers from the cables should indicate which ones are shorted. Not only some glooming pixels.

The purpose of Wirescanner is to graphically show quickly if a cable is good or not - in our testing experience with our own cables, more than 95% of cables are good - the bad ones can either be permanently sorted out or measured manually (often a visual inspection shows the cause) or just crimped again with new IDC connectors on both ends. While wirescanner is an analog tool, it will show a quadratic region when there are shorts, i.e. if pins 5-6 are shorted, you'll see four illuminated LEDs at coordinates 5/5, 5/6, 6/5 and 6/6, so you can determine which pins are bad. With DIY adapters you can chain multiple Wirescanners to scan for more pins in parallel or even scan different cable types (non IDC/micromatch). Best regards and enjoy! Peter
