MidJourney -Getting Started [New & Updated] A quick tutorial to get you started in AI art generation

There have been a lot of changes since the launch of MidJourney and it was about time I made an updated tutorial on how to get started. As more people discover MidJourney each day, there needed to be a new introduction on how to use it, so here it is! Some basics about Discord as well as basic prompt formation and how to use the interface.

Question. Sometimes I get a really good base in the 4 grid preview, however when I select the U version, it will change important details. Is there a way to select an image from the grid "as is" for download?

This company has a plethora of opportunities to monetize the release of an older version of Midjourney, especially compared to the more advanced version that the developers are likely using. Particularly through the creation of subscription plans and the ability to control the speed at which images are generated. It is impressive to see the power and control they hold in this regard.

When I click on the "make variations" button it turns blue, but nothing else happens to indicate that I can specify any descriptive text for the variations. The text field at the bottom remains as just a forward slash, so I don't know if that enables the "make variations" mode or not.

SCOTT, a topic for you. In my MJ V4 I get a lot of the blank expressionless faces. Adding Smiling, or Happy, is too strong of an effect. What prompts do you use to change the faces expression "gently?"

Have you or would you consider creating a tutorial which describes some of your favorite Stable Diffusion models and how to add those or other useful additional models to the Automatic1111 Stable Diffusion version of the user interface so that those non programmer type people like me (who followed your excellent tutorial on installing the AUTOMATIC1111 SD WebUI and successfully installed it) have other options in which to help create even better art than the standard pruned and pruned-emaonly models permit? Thanks for even considering this.

Super nice video! :) 1. So the "privete" setting keeps your images... private also from your Feed? No one can go to the website and find you and see your images you have not "published"? :=) 2. But what is the point of the Channels? Why would you not just create your art alone? 3. ANd what is the point of the walled off 5000+ channels? So more experienced people can chat and show there art or...?

I’m confused about credits. In all the plan info for the $30 plan, it doesn’t mention credits anywhere, just unlimited along with a certain number of fast renders that you automatically get with the option to purchase more. Are you talking about the $10 plan when you mention credits regarding the High quality at 2x cost? I have the $30 plan and I’ve used this option, but I have never received a warning about credits being used for it. I also just keep it on relaxed mode. Thank you for your videos, they have been very helpful.

Hi Scott. I came across your video after hunting all day for a solution to my problem with no luck. I’ve tried the support group on Midjourney too but no response. I’ve lost the icon on the top left of the page that looks like a blue and white bot that I used to click on and then on the Midjourney icon which would take me to my page with all the art I’ve created and the chat box at the bottom for entering my prompt. In place of the bot icon I now have a friend icon. How do I get back to my page? I’m a paid subscriber and have tried logging in and out of both Discord and Midjourney. I’m clearly doing something wrong but what?

you could try just going to the midjourney.com website and logout and back in and, see if that has what you need. Often times they are updating things.

Can you upload an existing image, say of a picture you took or an image originally created / modified in Photo Shop and have Midjourney iterativeley modify / enhance / change it into something new? I don't know if this answers exactly what you want but when you add a link of the image to the prompt, then it can use that image as reference... E.g you have a link of a black and white soccer ball and your prompts are: beautiful girl, the image will be black and white similar to the soccer ball colours and design

Give the bot a directive about where the person is standing, or shoes they are wearing. Think of it like the bot needs to "prove" to you that this is the case and you are more likely to get a full body. However, things like "smiling" etc will be the opposite as they need to be in a portrait to "prove" that, so be careful mixing them.

Agreed, I'd happily have a 14 day trial or a free version were you can make a very limited number of images. Frankly the whole thing seems overly fiddly and complicated for what is a roll of the dice image creator

Nice vid...informative and easy to follow. Your comment regarding, not being able to produce your exact vision, I might disagree with though. Which words you chose to use and the placement of them in the prompt string matter, AND make a huge difference...so far, what I've imagined, I've been able to manifest. Not sure how the "imagine prompt" works in other languages, but if you have a decent command of the English language and a knack for being able to describe your idea, you should be able to get fairly close to what you're wanting to create. P.S...I subbed.

A total newbie and I find it over the top confusing and high maintenance. I would much rather use the application as a standalone app, but not using a chatbot. I am so far not impressed. The developers obviously have too much time on their hands. On a sidebar, if I was depending on this application to generate high quality images for my business, it would be time consuming and come up short. Hopefully something with more accuracy and efficiency is in the works. I can't envision paying for this and wasting many hours trying to achieve success. Just my take. Keep churning away and someday you'll get there.

Hello. Newby here. I paid for a subscription on midjourney using my new email-I had an older discord account with my old email that I was planning to update-but find I am unable to access paid midjourney account as new email/discord account,I guess, unaccessible(?)/not linked. I’ve tried everything-reached out to discord and midjourney. Useless. Do you have any idea how I can tackle this problem? I’m beyond frustrated. I would like to WARN everyone that MIDJOURNEY no longer has a trial version. Also if you SUSCRIBE your subscription may never be activated because the subscription section is run by volunteers. The subscription is for 1 YEAR even if it gives you the feeling that it is a monthly subscription - MISLEADING! And if you - like me - are trying to find out why the software is not working, a few hours you will find thousands of post with people with the same problem online, but no Customer Support because it's only available for MEMBERS!!!! So if your subscription after paying having been actives then you will never be able to let them know about!!! I just spent a whole working day trying to generate 1 single image . NEVER HAPPENED! The whole process left me exhausted mentally and anxious. Funny it's mental health week 😂. So only subscribe if you like like to bet.
