Midnight Bite | Night Fishing Galveston Texas and Rattle Trap Fishing 101

Spending a little time night fishing in Galveston Texas with some friends, and a little rattle trap fishing 101. Night fishing is always fun this time of year, it's cooler during the evening and there's always bait in & around the lights. Once again the rattle trap was the lure of choice for the fish although I did land one small trout on H20 Xpress Hover Shad. I caught everything on H20 Xpress Solid 6 Rod, this rod has a solid graphite blank that makes the rod pretty much unbreakable.

Great video . Finally someone videos and makes it easy to understand abiht south Texas night fishing for speckled trout . Yea I’ve noticed that most of tbe speckled trout lately are hitting tbe surface and I’ll see something small jumping out of the water and literally hopping which I’m guessing it’s shrimp . I’ve caught a couple of small trout with a popping cork and dead shrimp . But little ones . I’ve heard of people using live shrimp but that’ll cost you money left and right. I’ve used tbe ttf trout little minnows . Tbh the guy that commented on it is definitely not wrong . I haven’t used those in years and now I’m just remembering how I would only use those ttf minnows at night and would slay the trout . I guess once I ran of those lures my brain didn’t connect the dots. definitely gonna buy a pack but yea I’d definitely try those ttf trout glow in the dark minnow soft plastics . They are really small and use a small crappie jig head . And just work it slow . They will hammer it .

Not sure what happened but my worm gear or that screw failed on my H20 Ethos Reel after 3 weeks. I did smoke a bunch of 18"-20" plus size Spec's with it. Academy didn't have any in stock to exchange it, so I traded it for the $99 Lew's Speed Spool LFS, minus the $70 I paid for the Ethos. Wow! What a difference in the smoothness & casting between the 2 reels. That Lew's is definitely worth the extra $20 or whatever it was.. Trout bite died down here after that Storm hit at the end of June. I was smoking Trout off the Surfside & Quintana Jetties & the Surf using Corky Fattie Texas Chicken Lures. (Mostly the big Momma's hit that lure) Now its been dead. I guess that strong wind & dirty water. I Caught a few flounders at the Mouth of Brazos yesterday but the seaweed is getting bad

Really, I haven't heard of that happening to those Ethos. I'm glad you exchanged them & happy with the Lewis. I need to get down there & do some fishing. My schedule has been crazy this summer. I can't wait to get back into my old routine lol

Great video. You mentioned the trout you saw feeding. Try a light spinning rod with 2 1/16th oz jigs rigged tandem. An ultralight spinning rig works great and you'll be surprised at the variety and size of fish you will catch. The 1/16 oz heads rigged with crappie size baits looks like the small shad and glass minnows the trout are feeding on. Tight lines! I prefer night fishing and there are usually enough larger fish somewhere around the lights to make it worth your time. Mike

Use a lighter set up like a crappie set up with a bobby garland plastic and see what happens. Lol, I know its scary but if I can catch a 7lb bass on it, it should work on trout.

They won't hit topwaters in the light but they will hit double rigs from ttf lures and glass minnows that are like sub surface
