I can still remember where I was when I heard the Diesel and Dust album for the first time way back in 1987. It completely changed how I thought about music and I've been a fan ever since. Stoked this film has been made and can't wait to see it. Rest in peace Bones. Long live The Oils.

First band I ever saw live was the Oils at the Horden Pavilion on the Diesel & Dust tour. 15 years old and eyes wide open when I walked out of that show. I had never seen such passion & energy in one room. From Peter on stage, to the crowd singing, drinking and dancing. What a journey Midnight Oil have had and I am so glad I was along for the ride. Can't wait to watch this movie.

Me too. Diesel and Dust changed my course of music. Then I went backwards into their catalog. My friend went to Australia for his senior HS trip. He brought back a suitcase filled with Oil albums that were not available in the US. It was glorious.

Few bands affected me like Midnight Oil. To me they were part of the same star stuff that gave us The Clash, The Smiths and Matt Johnson's The The. We were the generations that followed in the footsteps of those whose music quite literally changed the world. I was convinced that would happen in the 80s and 90s, as well. I was wrong.... but it did change OUR worlds, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

I even learnt to Drive, & Bought a Car, so we could Travel Further Afield, to see Them Play! A Highlight of My Life Is that I'm In Their "Resist" FilmClip! OILS, OILS!

Without doubt, the Mighty Oils are Australia's Best Live Act! They are up there with best live acts in the world. I'm also a big fan of U2 & I know each band has a deep respect for each other's music. Personally, I've felt U2 has mellowed in recent years whereas the OILS have ramped up the passion & aggression in their politically & socially charged songs. I had the privilege of being at the front of stage during their last concert at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney 2022. As a fellow musician & drummer, to see a band play with such ferocity & intensity for nearly 4 hours straight is a testament to their amazing musicianship & stamina. Rob Hirst take a bow, you are an amazing drummer! Would do anything to see this amazing band perform live again. Can't wait for the movie!

Was lucky to see Midnight Oil at the old CNE Stadium in Toronto . It was a slightly damp/cool night, but the concert was amazing, Peter singing on top of the speakers like some sort of amazing stick insect, every bit as charismatic as Jagger. (Hunters and Collectors opened for them, they were good too) ‘Diesel and Dust’ came on an early car trip with my partner Linda, it remains one of my favourite road albums…

First saw them at Waratah Mayfield RSL back when I was in my apprenticeship at BHP Newcastle, would have been about 1978ish. That was it for me, still wearing a Head Injuries T shirt now and nearly always get a comment from someone about it.

April '79...Stagedoor Tavern, support band done, crammed in but happy crowd, beer doused & high, super excited, stinking hot, old gym boots almost stuck to the dank carpet...smiling expectancy and that electric atmosphere...and suddenly a few strangled whoops, then to a low growl of enthusiasm and reverence rippling through the room as a tall, dark coated figure starts moving carefully and respectfully through the crowd... from the FRONT door (yes!) toward the actual stage-door, flat & wide brimmed felt or leather hat pulled down low but foolin' no-one...HE is here and AMONGST us, like a rock messiah with a confident half smile and a look like the portent of a coming maelstrom...darts to the side door and is gone...now the place is going ballistic...then dim lights dim impossibly further, the roar builds...this is surely the centre of the universe in that crowded room...and then all hell breaks loose as Rob's pre-emptive drum check greets Bears bass rumble and are severed by twin electric guitar slashes as Garrett bounds onto the stage, impossibly missing the sprinkler system heads by inches... and IT'S ON ! The rest is a glorious blur of sound and movement, short by today's standards but none-the-less as powerful and mesmerising, delivered a mere 15'' from where we stood behind the already converted 60 or so at the front awaiting another anointment of Garrett sweat, Martin's burning but unsmoked smoke and the ringing eardrums of the first disciples. Stone faced, beanie clad Jim a picture of concentration while Bear earnestly watches Rob so as to keep up the frantic pace. Unforgettable!

I suppose there is a bit of a poet in all of us but what I can attest to is the poetic magic of one of our best in songwriter and musician Perry Keyes. A bit of Paul Kelly, a splash of Springsteen and the ballad style of Dylan....well actually they are all pretty handy at telling a story...but if you haven't heard Perry Keyes let me recommend him highly. Down on the gritty street stuff, sometimes grim in his observed reality of fellow inner Sydney battlers and outcasts, working girls and gangsters, front yard mechanics keeping near dead Holdens ticking, down trodden housewives beaten black n blue...well you probably get the picture. His life, with a Polio buggered leg, has always been a struggle and he pours out his reflections of those other battlers he grew up with and went unnoticed by mainstream Australia. If you do the Spotify thingo have a listen to Bluebird of Unhappiness, Let's Have Smoke Outside, Johnny Ray's Downtown...well there is plenty more but...

I had the privilege of attending their first and last shows of their last world tour, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and Sydney, Australia. They're giants for sure. Currently, Porto Alegre and a significant part of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil, are in pretty bad shape, due to intense flooding - very probably, caused by global warming. I hope this movie comes to Brazilian theaters. The Oils have great music, great performances and great messages.

I remember sometime in 1986 one of my mates got a brand new stereo in his Torana , 4 of us went for a drive around our town , we were 17-18 at that time , he played a song which blew me away , I said ' who the hell is this ' he replied 'Midnight Oil'. The song was Outside World off their album 10-1, needless to say I was hooked.

I was first introduced to them through my uncle, who loved Diesel and Dust and soon became a fan too. Hearing the full album everyday, singing the lyrics to learn English, and the whole social political and ecological environment ideas, had transformed me into a real civilized person I am today. 20 years later of the album release I was able to pay back my uncle's favor buying us tickets to see them live in Brazil, singing along all those beautiful lyrics, it will be a moment that I will take for my entire life. saw The Oils 4 times in London, being a fan from the UK back in the day was difficult but from buying head injuries in a record shop whilst looking for some new music to listen to, I was hooked and been a big fan ever since. I got to see them at the Target Centre in Minneapolis in 1994, shortly after the Blue Sky Mining came out. They were amazing. I was drowning in my own sweat, but what an experience. I was buzzing for the rest of the night and could barely sleep when I got home the next day. I went to a couple of friends’ house, and there were a bunch of people, and we all talked politics the entire evening, and especially the message, the Oils were presenting through their music. I can hardly wait to see this film.

I saw the last show of their last world tour- hopefully not- at the Hordern Pavilion 1 for the road. I have seen the Oils at least 20 times since 1986 every show was all time. But 40 songs, a couple from every album over 3.5hrs was the pinnacle. I left the Hordern sweaty and stoked lamenting the loss of Australian music's backbone.

If the Auckland gig was at the Logan Campbell Centre, I was there too - the venue seemed too small for the band, but it made for a seriously intense show. Saw them before that at the Sweetwaters festival where they were absolutely epic.

Wow.. ! I have travelled alongside the Oils since a 15 yr old in 1982, back in the days of the Narrabeen Antler pub, the Hordern Pavilion and the great outdoor concerts of the 1980's ... and haven't tired of their music, commentary or performances. Since then I have been exposed to a lot of music across many genres but the Oils still rock to a point where I could say that they are the best thing Australia has ever exported.

In my life I have seen well over 1000 concerts by the greatest bands in the world. Midnight Oil was THE BEST every time I saw them. MO not only writes powerful songs, they care about people and the world -- and more so than most any other, they fought thru the noise to change the world for better for us all. Heartbroken I will never see them live again now that they have retired from touring.

I've been fond of the Oils since my dad's ex-business partner introduced me to a whole new world of fresh music. He was mates with a character named Warren who was a Kiwi. Warren was a journeyman who explored the planet with odd jobs and a high fever of living. Yes, I feel like Diesel & Dust, (on vinyl) Blue Sky Mining (on cassette) and the Sun, the Earth, the Moon, the Stars were classics. I always felt Peter Garrett's activism was so strong with passion. Australia developed other iconic bands but the Oils definitely were the most important one. Peace. Hard Love. Joy.

THE band of my teenage years and they remain super close to my heart nearing 40 years (and many concerts) later. The only band I slept out for days to get tickets to see. Went to see this last night. EPIC. Saw them in 2022 in that most isolated of cities. I went home both elated and sad, given it was the last time I would see the Oils but more so knowing there was no band to pass the baton onto as it were. Whilst not always aligned with every message they had I feel they taught me to think critically and question everything. Thank you Midnight Oil for taking the hardest line.

Jim is correct the Australian music scene was dominated by countdown and mushroom records. And both had enormous power over who got exposed to the music mainstream. It wasn’t just a scheduling issue that made the band miss their slot on countdown. The way it was shown on the Molly series (produced by mushroom!) was a bloody lie.

That quote in the trailer - "go back where ya come from" It's got to be the Australian equivalent to "why do you hate America so much" 😆 As a musical artist I think Peter had a more effective message delivery method than as a politician. But for me one of the most poignant moments for this group of truth tellers was when Rob, Jim and Martin, playing as the Break, supported Rodriguez when he toured Australia. Just as the South African equivalent to the Oils including Willem Moller, supported him when he played Sth Africa where his song Establishment Blues apparently helped bring down the Apartheid... and as he had supported the Oils in the 80's. All music is worthy, but up at the top of the genres that actually enable change, the Oils sit at the top along with their global contemporaries.

I first saw them at Blacktown RSL in '02 as an 18 year old, just before they broke up the first time. It was the first live rock gig I ever went to and I have been to 100 since. I got all their albums and with great respect to bands like AC/DC, The Angels, Rose Tattoo, INXS, the Bee Gees and Cold Chisel, I think the Oils are the most uniquely Australian sounding band ever. Jim Moginie is a musical genius. Rob Hirst is not only an animal on the drums but, rare for a drummer, extraordinarily creative. And while Peter Garrett couldn't win a karaoke competition to save his life, he really brought the voice of Australia to the world.

Saw The Oils like y’all did in the mid 80s and was changed forever. They spoke to my soul much like The The and The Smiths did. @@darrenshanks1980 it was REALLY good. Then again, every show I ever saw them play was them giving nothing less than 100%. While they said it would be the last US tour, my hope is they will come back to the states and perform a handful of shows, even if they don’t do a full-fledged tour. I was lucky enough to take my 19 year old son to their last Southern California show ever. They played at the Hollywood Palladium; we got there super early and rode the rail almost dead center. Such a treat, and my boy loved them!

It a absolutely blows my mind how such a powerful force of nature the Oils once were have disappeared into the annals of Australian rock history. As teenagers we drove HR Holdens and rode Katana’s while listening to Head Injuries up until the Power and the Passion of 10 to 1. The political voice was loud and clear “Stop The Drop” and “Species Deceasies” where are the fans. You can’t tell me Anthony Albanese PM of Australia was a fan. Otherwise you’d see Peter Garrett as a consultant of his by now.😊

Go the Midnight Oils. A band that meant something, a story that went somewhere , had a passion, a purpose and resounding truth to it through its entire journey. And the music and the dance will always live in the hearts of the people they touched across the globe, but especially in this country we call Oz. ☢️❤☮️🦘

Awesome! I've seen them live twice!! 2017 with a friend I had & when I was just 18 in 96 :) I'll show this to a friend tomight she loves them! I'll have to go see this! It's out the day before my birthday 😊

How f**kin good was this band, and to go in the direction they did (politics pop, with the greatest of respect BTW) and for the Australian public to embrace them the way they did is testament to the bias right wing media feed bullshit the mainstream media feed the public who lap it up. But they loved Midnight Oil. Would The Voice vote been better had Midnight Oil put a song together.? And this trailer looks sooooooo good.

I hate to mention this but being in a few Oils fan groups on FB the amount of anti voice/cooker commentary was astounding. Some even accused them of "virtue signalling" which is probably the most bizarre accusation I have ever heard. They never signalled. They acted.
