Benjamin Vaughn, the one and only... It is hard to list all of my favourites from his releases, but this one is definitely one that feels so relevant, especially in these times... I reflected a lot lately on how so many people can listen to roots music, but not actually hear it... The meaning, the message. So I did some searching to find if there is anything written about these lyrics and found this... Midnite's song "Bazra" is a powerful commentary on oppression, corruption and the struggle for freedom. The lyrics seem to describe the situation of a soul outlaw, who uses the power of the 23rd psalm to fight against a corrupt system that has executed people and oppressed the youth. The setting of the song is by the rivers of Babylon, a symbol of exile and displacement for many African diasporic communities. The youth are described as having red eyes and coming deep in blood, which could be a reference to their suffering and the violence they have experienced. The song calls for chanting for the root, which could mean connecting to the spiritual and cultural roots of resistance and resilience. The lyrics also touch on themes of class inequality and the false promises of material wealth. The line "All kind of man Jah need some right of and some poor free is the sight of the last time is vanity and need a hundred pear a shoes a wear most a sadam pitt" suggests that Jah (God) cares about justice and fairness, and that material possessions are insignificant in the face of death. The song's critique of power structures extends to religious institutions ("ya shallow and ya empty the pope undertaker come come bear nativity") and political systems ("all them governing power come from robbery"). Overall, "Bazra" is a passionate and thought-provoking song that speaks to the ongoing struggles for freedom and justice worldwide. Ah yes, not to forget... #freepalestine

Sequoia s e m p i v i r e n s Sequoia giganticus there are only three Sequoia species on Earth two in California the Redwoods and the Giants Sequoia not all that long ago a third was discovered I have seen it a specimen in Golden Gate Park it is called the Dawn Redwood it is shorter and fluffier interestingly it was discovered in Eastern China so I don't know if you believe in tectonic plate shift and continental drift ain't that cool and by the way California also has the oldest tree in the world the tallest the fattest the oldest is the Bristlecone pine tree I've seen that white Mounds east of the Sierra Nevada Big Pine or Lone Pine yeah East and then to top it off California also has the oldest plant on Earth and believe it or not it's the creosote 14,000 years so stick that in your pipe and smoke it did you know the indigenous people of Marin County were called the m i w o k s name so after chief Marin and Return of the Jedi was filmed in the redwood trees although I believe in Humboldt or Del Norte County and they were called of course Ewoks coincidence possibly yes I
