You guys are so skilled at performing such a perfectly faithful version of the original without interpretation - not easy to do!. Walter and Donald will be so impressed and proud of you....keep it up lads we are all watching bring to life these masterpieces from over 40 years ago, with great admiration!

I was born in ‘92. Grew up hearing SD on the radio and over the past year I’ve become completely obsessed with the band. Can’t Buy a Thrill is still my favorite SD album and my god you guys cover this song so well

No two SD songs ever sounded the same...they were a unique blend of jazz, rock , soul, r&b music with intelligent, biting lyrics. RIP Walter Becker and Jim Hodder.
@kb9788 Жыл бұрын
This one was originally sang by the great drummer Jim Hooder, very soulful and underrated vocalist. This was before SD became a monolithic voice of one. Back then they ha d3 members that could sing and 2 were far better singers than Fagen.

Another feather in the cap, you fellows master these tunes that have hours and days of studio time, and you just stand up, play the tune, and go on to the next tune. Not, an easy task. Kudo's gentlemen !

Such a wonderful tribute to original vocalist Jim Hodder. Sad to think that by the time Becker & Fagen finally resumed touring in Aug. 1993, both drummers from their 1974 tour (Hodder and Jeff Porcaro) had passed on.
@garyscharg23062 жыл бұрын
Dude, the tour was in 73 and 74. I saw them in May of 73 with that lineup that included Michael McDonald and Skunk Baxter, Denny Dias, Becker on bass.
@andyinoregon2 жыл бұрын
@@garyscharg2306 I didn't see them until April 1974 at the U. of Toledo. The only performer my wife and I had seen before was 2nd drummer Jeff Porcaro, who we saw in concert with Sonny & Cher in March of 1972 -- when he was still just 17 years old!

One of my favorite tracks from the very first album I ever purchased, Steely Dan’s “Can’t Buy A Thrill.” Sean Briskey, you handle the lead vocals masterfully, and the wailing guitar combo of both you and Frank make this one of the best renditions of this classic, underrated, under-appreciated Steely Dan original. Thanks for all your excellence and beautiful music, Brooklyn Charmers! A+ +....🎼🎸🎶🥁🎹🎼🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

In hindsight, it was a huge mistake not to let drummer Jim Hodder sing this fine song on their '74 tour. They let "Skunk" Baxter sing "My Old School." Percussionist Royce Jones got to sing "Dirty Work," "Brooklyn" and "Any Major Dude." Michael McDonald got to sing lead on "Show Biz Kids," but Hodder never got to perform this fan favorite from "Can't Buy a Thrill." Does anyone know if he ever sang it at any of their 1972-73 concerts?
@maurizionicoletti2230 Жыл бұрын
It seems to me that there was a personality clash between Jim and Fagen/Becker. Just my sense of it due to the way he was discarded after the 74 tour.
