Evening both…..our garlic had horrendous rust, worst I’ve known. I’m contemplating growing some in the tunnel now I have a decent sized one. I’ve left the Elephant for another week but looks promising. 🌸

We are on the same page with garlic but I wait another month before I sow my winter carrots. I never heard of eskimo but will check it out. I harvested 51 heads of garlic today and most were very nice. Maybe a half dozen were a bit deformed or beginning to split so I'll be using them first. All the others are in the shed curing. I highly recommend a hardneck variety called extra hardy german. They always produce the largest heads for me and I grow four or five different varieties. The regular german garlic is nothing spectacular so make sure you get the extra hardy german if you decide to give it a try.

Hi Frank, good to hear the garlic is good! 51 heads and most good. I'll look out for the hardy German and see if I can find the US equivalent to Eskimo!

No rust on our garlic which is very pleasing. But I'm fretting over when to harvest them. Maybe I should have pulled them already. Me and Mrs J will go and have a look this evening. Well done to Sasha for doing so well, and well done for you both for bragging about it. I think your video production values have taken another step up recently which makes watching them even more enjoyable. Well done and keep them coming.

I appreciate your kind words and support Ken! When did you plant your garlic? Have you had a scrape around to see if they are of a size and split ok? An October sowing generally means a June harvest. We are very proud of young Sasha, she is the first of our family to be a graduate so well worth a shout out! I am so happy that you have noticed the little things we have been adding to our final cut!

@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 I've just checked and I planted them late, 14th December2023. So they are not ready. No yellow leaves at all. All Mersley Wight.
@nodignorfolkgardener45754 ай бұрын
I would think another 4 to 6 weeks then Ken, I would however check them every week by the middle of July. Mersley White are a later harvest anyway and the taste is amazing!

Great harvest of garlic - they will see you nicely though to next Spring. I grow Provence Wight. I have been saving my bulbd for a few years now, but this year they had to get used to new sil as I planted them out on my new allotment. I am very pleased with them- good size bulbs, despite rust. Happy Gardening 🙂

My garlic was poor it bent over early and I harvested it to avoid it rotting. However the heat this week has resulted in an abundance of strawberries we’ve had 3 punnets in 2+days Also harvesting B-road beans p. My hot composter is at 70 degrees and cooking nicely I shall sow some carrots shortly.

Hi Pete, sorry to hear about the garlic, but what a great harvest of strawberries and broad beans on tap. Keep going with that composting!
