Midsummer in the Downs and the Importance of Chalk Grassland

Matthew Thomas from the Steyning Downland Scheme gives a fascinating talk on the importance of our chalk downland. He shows us how rich in plant life the area is. Within a few metres we found Ragwort, Milkwort, Yellow-wort, Squinancywort, Salad Burnet, Black Medick, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Vellerium, Ploughman's Spikenard, orchids and more, all thriving within this unique and special nutrient poor environment.
