My family never hunted im the first in my family to actually go and hunt. I'm an "older" guy in the waterfowl community. I stumbled across this video and was about to immediately dismiss it as another young douche bag trying to make money off of youtube. Then I was surprised right off the bat when the first thing you talked about was the respect of the animal. I kept listening and all I can say is you are a stand up individual and are hunting for the right reasons. As an old snow goose guide from Northern ND all I can say is I wish everyone in the waterfowl community was like you.

I was raised around the native culture and learned at a young age to appreciate every little thing about my harvest. I've hunted deer, dove, pheasant, quail, and turkey the last 23 years and finally got into duck hunting last year because of a buddy. I enjoy the heck out of it and I think I'm officially hooked. Didn't get a bird last year but focused more on learning as much as possible about this chess game. Here's to this year being successful! Thank you so much for your video!

I’ve been extremely fortunate. I was always a pheasant hunter but that has become increasingly more difficult hunting wild birds here in South Dakota. But last year I made friends with a guy that duck hunted mostly by himself. He invited me along and I was hooked. We went almost every weekend and now im obsessed. I only wish I knew up front the amount of money I was going spend. I guess you can’t take it with you. Love the videos. Thanks.

Yeah. Spending all of the money. 😂😂 Hunting for most people isn’t more economical than buying food. 40lbs of meat off a deer or so and the tag make a it $1/lb, the gas I spent made it $2, and whatever else I decided I needed made it $3. 😂😂

Hunting is fun but the most awesome thing about it is hanging out with your friends, family, cousin etc etc. Those are the fun memories, that's why I never stop going, went waterfowl in MN, love it, deer season, had a blast, it's the memory that counts

Thank you, Titus We need more hunters that respect the animals that are hunted, the land that is hunted on and our fellow hunters. We are at a time where any and everything is at our finger tips, so an "entitlement" is expected. I started b/c a friend took me on a Woodduck shoot. I still remember the ducks coming thru the Cypress, how they whistle and once I hit one, I was?amazed at its colored feathers. It was magical! Yes, knowing the law is very important. Also, if you have the knowledge of the rules and regs, it will save a lot of headaches when "the man" checks ya. This leads to ethics and sportsmanship, which folds into SAFETY. There's a lot to cover there, b/c the duck hunter's techniques and styles offer many challenges that could place the hunter in some precarious and dangerous situations. Boats, guns, dogs, mud, sticks & snags, etc. Also, the big, party hunts could become confusing and dangerous. Choose your partners wisely. With this, mixing alcohol/drugs is a big, big NO NO!!! Save that for after the hunt, not before or during. Know the birds your targeting. Some are restricted and some off limits. As for the rest, trail and error will teach you as well as a video. Scout, scout, scout! Good luck to all!

Im glad you focused on the act of taking life as a hunter. I truly believe that hunting and fishing growing up gave me an appreciation for life and a healthy respect for the power of firearms. After I killed my first deer as a kid and seeing the effects of a gun shot on a deer made me realize and respect the power of a firearm in a way that cant be matched through education. I grew up in a shooting and hunting family, but it wasnt until seeing the real flesh and blood result if a gun shot. I think if more people who were interested in shooting sports have that experience, there would not be as many careless accidents involving guns. Its my biggest issue when I go to a public range and seeing inexperienced people with poor muzzle discipline, pistol twerling, and just careless behavior around guns. I wouldn't hesitate to defend myself or my family, but I couldnt live with myself if a careless incident hurt or killed someone. I thank hunting for putting that healthy respect into me as a kid. I intend to pass that down to my children as well.

Great tips. I want to add to your point of “find a friend”. Don’t be afraid to just straight up ask on your local hunting forums, or get a hold of your local Delta Waterfowl or DU chapter. My first time out was with two complete strangers who replied to my request on a forum and now 6 years later they are two of my best friends I have. Another option is go solo to local areas others hunt and just chat it up with the guys at the launch or parking. There is a good chance one will ask if you’d like to join them. And if you get invited do your best to help out. Volunteer to throw decoys, collect decoys, gather brush, pick up birds, just make yourself a helpful hunting partner. And most important, BRING SPARE SNACKS!

If you can't find anybody to take you hunting. Get out there by yourself. Sometimes successful hunters don't want to take a new Hunter out and do all the work for them. But if you take the initiative to go out on your own and try to figure it out, hunters will notice that and be more likely to want to help you be successful. Also asking for pointers at your local sporting goods, or archery pro shops or even call the local game and fish depot up and ask some questions. And hunting is hard work most of the time. Just remember to be safe, and have fun. Enjoy the time you get to spend in nature. 🇺🇲

@beaudye8333 жыл бұрын
And I’m from oregon so hunting out here is basically deep deep water so you’re throwing out deep weighted decoys and seeing a lot less ducks than they do over east more or farther north or even a little bit closer to the coast line, the migration is not the best over here but it’s enough to have some good days or days that make a week worth it
