The Fox and Midway were the only great drive-in's in Jacksonville.3,4,and5 movies on a regular basis. The beautiful 🎍 pine trees. And remaining open until 1984 and 1985. Am I the only one that wanted to keep a big piece of the screen for memorabilia?! Also their movie ads were the best free hoot you could possibly get. I liken them to Wacky Packages. R.I.P. 🦊 Fox and Midway. You'll forever be missed.❤😢😊

I grew up behind the Midway in Killarney Shores. We even had a tree-house in one of my neighborhood friend's backyard overlooking the western fence that borders the road along the side as you come in. Before Walmart, the bowling alley and all the other things that sprung up, it used to be just forested land around the drive-in with trails to walk back to the lake or ride honda scooters through. And across Beach Blvd where there is some sort of strip mall of stores (last I checked a few years ago) there used to be a lot of motocross trails we would ride all the way back to about where the Grove Park creek was. This means a lot to me to see this now. Thank you.

Lived next door in Killarney Shores. I liked it best when they only had 1 screen. Memories galore from there!

It was sad to hear that the midway was gone. I remember when they went from speakers to using your car radio. Those were good days.

I'm glad you folks are enjoying this. Little did I know when I shot this film that people would be watching it almost 30 years later. I miss the Midway, wish now that I had shot movies of the Fox as well.

Fantastic! I love that you did this. I lived in the neighborhood across the street from this, and have many fond memories of Midway. My dad even worked there as a teenager in the fifties. Thanks for posting this.

I don't know what my parents were thinking! I Saw The Exorcist at the Midway! I had a blast! I was on Pinterest. That's how I found this. Thank you for the memory. I'm sorry it's gone.

Yeah me too. I worked at the Midway, Fox and Playtime. I miss the drive ins. Just too expensive to try to operate these days.

There was a Beaches Drive In off of Beach Blvd. near the intersection of Beach and A1A. The fading CocaCola logo remained visible on the concrete screen as long as the screen was there. It was a trailer park for the longest time, not sure what it is now, the screen is gone.

Long after it had closed I drove through the parking lot and found 1 car speaker that had been left. Still have it. If it could only tell the stories : )

watched General Patton, there as a teenager. The movie sold out every night for a month!! ...The pop corn and Corndogs there were the best in the world! and Coke-Cola was Real!! 15 mins before the movies would end, they made a quick announcement that they will be closing, free popcorn will be available until it's gone. thanks for coming and good nite!

I know. Channels 4 and 17 have video of the big screen coming down somewhere in their archives. I know because I was a cameraman for 17 when it came down. I think if you drive into the parking lot and look at the ditch that surrounds the perimeter, there is a small ( about 2 and a half feet tall) green brick wall. That's the only thing left of the Midway. Check out my video of the Playtime.Playtime Drive In X Rated super 8

Same horror show but in real time at Wally Mart. Parking lot was far safer at the Midway. I went to see a movie there in 81 with my boss, who demanded we go. It was R rated. I worked in Christian TV and had to remove my Be Sure Your Last Neighbors Will Be Angels bumper stick just in case we were spotted. No idea what the movie was. And there was no nudity as I expected.

I remember when there was absolutely nothing out that way almost. It was growing when I was working there. The companies that owned the drive ins made more money selling the property than they ever could running a drive in.

I saw so many movies at Midway due to our treehouse, and I parked there quite a few times with a date too. Could you reply or update the description with what song(s) are playing in the background? Very catchy, and they enhance the Super8 grainy film nostalgia something fierce.

Looking back on that, I remember feeling almost guilty shooting a whole roll, may have been 2 of super 8 film. Even back then it was expensive and I didn't want to shoot video, because it would've looked like real crap ( 3rd generation 3/4 inch dubbed to VHS shot with a tube camera) and probably not survived. Glad I "wasted" the Kodachrome now.
