The next morning I popped into the hotel shop for some bite cream and the cast member was horrified. Gave me the cream free and took details of my room number. By the time i had returned to my room with the cream a crew had arrived and were draining the pond outside my room!! No more bites for the rest of my stay.... amazing response.

We were staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort and our son wet the bed one night. We told the housekeeper the next morning as we left. When we got in late that night, after midnight, the same, kinda damp, mattress was still there. We called the desk to "complain" and they said they'd send someone right over. Ten minutes later the resort's night manager was there with a brand new mattress and three vouchers for lunch the next day anywhere we wanted to eat on property. (We chose Boathouse) You're right, they don't play around with customer satisfaction.

I'm always surprised that there are almost no butterflies at Disney World, despite there being flowers everywhere. During the Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot there are millions of native flowers that blanket the park, yet there are no butterflies (or bumblebees or other insects you would normally see). I have just a few of those native plants in my yard here in Florida and they are covered in butterflies every day. I think that their twice-daily spraying for mosquitoes is not only killing mosquitoes.
@ArmednotTriggered6 жыл бұрын
Arthur de Wolf That's a good point actually. I've seen a few butterflies in Epcot, but certainly not as many as I see in our backyard. I didn't even think about that.

Arthur de Wolf Well yeah, they're insects and they spray with an insecticide. Granted a lot of caterpillars are dangerous to touch and all destroy plants, so it's probably also a good idea they're kept at bay. @calvinh.88826 жыл бұрын
They work okay if you're just wanting to sit like at a table or some small area like that. And if there's any kind of breeze you need to make sure the halo is up wind from you so the breeze blows it to you.. I was told about a system called "Mosquito Magnet", that runs off propane, some sort of cartridge for bait i guess, and has to be plugged in also, and takes a propane tank like you use for a Bar-BQ grill, and i believe i'll be getting one of those soon.. They take care of one acre, and they take care of mosquitoes, midges, black flies and no-see-ums.. You have to replace the cartridges every so many days, but I'v been told they work great, and they cost between $299 to $750, depending on which one you get..

I remember mosquitoes at Disney World when I was a kid. I'm 34 now and they've definitely improved on them because we used to stay at Fort Wilderness and that, to my knowledge, was the only time I recall a mosq. I do recall a point where my parents would have us stay inside later and the resort warned us that they were spraying... was definitely later 90s, if my recollection is correct.

At least one of those cartoons is from the early days when Disney was contracted to make short films for the U.S. military. Mosquito control was a big thing for overseas troops back in the day--you can't have an effective fighting force when they're all sick with malaria or dengue or what have you! So the military figured that their soldiers might learn better from a fun cartoon than they would if their superiors just told them to be vigilant, use their bug spray, and empty out standing water. Here's a link to the full cartoon (though it's inexplicably in black and white): kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZ7MZIZteLKqZrM

I was curious if Disney made use of infertile genetically modified mosquitoes to reduce population? I didn't notice a single mosquito when I was there in January.
@ashknoecklein6 жыл бұрын
Sure, let's just destroy the environment even more. Great idea!
@RandallJamesPeterson6 жыл бұрын
weehawk , I know. Using genetically infertile mosquitoes to lower the breeding population is the least invasive or damaging to the environment method out there. Altering the structure of the land destroys habitats for other species, but can destroy the breeding grounds of the mosquitoes. Spraying toxins that poisons the entire food chain is an even worse option. Also the genetic modification is a trait that doesn't get spread through the population overall. It's the opposite of the GM crops from Monsanto that are Roundup Ready (giving them the ability to resist higher levels of herbicide and poison the water and the food chain dependent on it). Infertile mosquitoes are the least destructive to the environment option out there other than eliminating all humans, but then what's the point of Disney parks.
@aMondayMorning6 жыл бұрын
weehawk Mosquitos have no right to exist, and nature would literally be better off without them.
@Andrea-rs4wo6 жыл бұрын
Usually they aren’t an issue in January though it’s a lot cooler than usual and part of our dry season
@soangry6 жыл бұрын
That's not how roundup ready crops work. The herbicide glyphosate affects a very specific pathway in certain plants and basically chokes off their food supply. RR crops have an alternate pathway making them immune to glyphosate. Because of it's specific mode of action, glyphosate is much less toxic than most other herbicides used before it.

Our family went to Disney for years,since the 80's & I've got to write this truth. We were bitten many times by mosquitos. There were also these flying huge insects that had a bluish body & scared my daughter all night long,from 6-9pm,it was Disney's haunted hallowed & there were mosquitos & those flying insects I've described every night. Even on other occasions We were still bitten yet not ravaged. We had bites as we probably would've had anywhere though. Nothing more than a person usually gets yet yes,they're still out there. Disney is trying yet that is one impossible task yet I'm quite certain that they've reduced the amount that there "would be" if they didn't do what they do to reduce their population drastically. Gratitude for this informative share.

We stayed at a Disney resort when it opened. For the first time, after many summer resort visits, we saw tons of bugs in the new resort. Returning to the hotel room one night, we saw an entire wall covered with all types of bugs. Some roaches were as big as frogs! I’m sure that Disney eliminated the insect problem after that. I never realized how much work they had to do with pest control.We never saw bugs again on subsequent visits to Disney resorts.

bats actually eat tons of mosquitoes. I had a bad house and could comfortably sit outside at dusk and watch the bats come out and flying around catching bugs. As a commercial pesticide applicator that has done work for Disney, I can say firsthand that Disney currently uses the in2care system for mosquito control. It's commercially available in the best product on the market. Disney uses chickens to diagnose areas with heavier mosquito populations around the park. They draw the blood from the chickens and can tell what the mosquito density is. Those are the areas they target.

@@MPTX-be8qq Here you go. How to Make a DIY Mosquito Trap With Yeast and Sugar Making a combination of sugar, yeast, and water is an effective way to trap mosquitoes in and around your property. After a few hours, the yeast starts releasing a steady stream of carbon dioxide, which mosquitoes are highly attracted to. Cut off the top of an empty plastic bottle, cutting where the bottle straightens out, below the neck. In the bottom of the bottle, mix together a sugar and yeast solution (if using a 2 liter bottle, mix 1 cup of warm water, 4 tablespoons of sugar, and 1/3 teaspoon of dry yeast; for a smaller bottle, use the same ratio and adjust the amount accordingly). Flip the top part of the bottle over so that it's pointed downwards and forms a funnel. Place it on top of the bottom part of the bottle. Use tape or glue to hold the funnel in place, making sure that any gaps or openings around the edges are sealed. Wrap the bottle in something black (leaving the top uncovered for mosquitoes to fly in) so that both the inside and outside are dark. Refill the trap with fresh yeast and sugar every few days.
