Btw, side note: the graffiti removal system used on the statues was invented by a San Diego man in 1990. The man who created 'Lift Off'. He has 50 patents on stain & adhesive removal.

The is great book about the history of the fortune cookie, called the Fortune Cookie Chronicles in which the author does a thorough investigation into the fortune cookie. Conclusion: invented in Japan where there was a tradition in certain towns of putting a message inside a cookie.
