Miele - check drainage system fault

Good video. I have a Miele M3725W and had a drainage error this morning, the machine was making a beeping sound I hadn't heard before. I followed your recommended pump test @ 00:49 and confirmed the pump is working correctly. The way my washing machine is installed it's difficult to tilt forward to drain any excess water. So I tried plan B which was to pull the clothes out, and run a full cycle on hottest water temperature, and it seems to have fixed the blockage. I was actually shocked to see how soapy the water got, so Im thinking it was maybe clogged up from soap build up (?). It's people like you who take the time to do these tutorials that really make life easier for others. So thank you for your service to others!!

So, I did as you suggested. Put on drain & spin with filters out. Saw only one impeller spinning. Is there ever a mode that only one would spin. Should i try another wash mode? Know where I can find tutorial on how to change?

hi scott, if you do a ohms test on that pump, what should the reading be.? i suspect mine is gone as when i do a continuatity test across the terminal there is no resistance. not sure if thats what it shoudl be?

Thanks for your comment and sorry to read you have a problem. I'm not sure what the resistance reading should be for that pump motor....however when you set your voltmeter to 'continuity', it should start off at '1' (eg infinite resistance) and then change when you put the probes across the motor terminal. if there is no change, it would imply your motor is not working. Take it out and inspect it and if need be (if you are brave) put 240 volts across the terminal. Mike

@@scottitonline thanks scott, i took the pump out and the ohm reading is about 160ohms, however when i move (by pushing/pulling) the propeller i can see liquid movement just like the one you showing above, and if i shake it i can hear liquid movement as well. with your new pump was there any liquid moment as such when you move the propeller or shaking it. the pump currently is tripping the circuit breaker.

@@Michael-qt8md There should not be any water in the pump. If there is, it means that pump seal is knackered and you need a new pump - water in pump = tripping electrics or drain pump fault. Mike

@@scottitonline thanks for that, thats what i thought. i have already ordered a new replacement for it after watching your video earlier on. I didnt think it should have any liquid in there, i know its a magnetic switch, but wasnt 100% sure. but now you have confirmed that it shouldnt. I am pretty sure i have found the problem. once again, many thanks for sharing really appreciate it. hopefully new pump will fix my issue.

AHH, so mine I found a mixture of fine dark sand and water. Thought I clean then dry it n put it back. But now I have to buy a new pump. Thanks

What would cause that default drain at the bottom of the machine to be full of water constantly and leaking a bit? Would a dead pump cause that as well or something else?

Thanks for your comment and sorry to heare about your leak issue. A faulty pump would generally throw up a message and stop the machine from working. It might be something as simple as a loose/broken hose clip and a split pipe. If it was me, I would attempt to take off the front (or side), thoroughly mop up any water using sponge +kitchen roll. Next I would tie bits if kitchen roll round the various rubber pipe unions and run the machine through a cycle. Hopefully you should be able to see where any leak is coming from. Good luck. Mike

@@scottitonline thanks for the reply! I think it may have been a simple clog in the pipe from the detergent cartridge into the actual machine. After using a Q-tip, pouring some white vinegar through, and then rinsing with hot water, the issue seems to be resolved as the leaking from the detergent cartridge isn’t occurring anymore. So I’m gonna wager on buildup clog.

Thanks for your comment. It might be possible to get the pump out through the front lower panel depending on your model of Miele. I did it through the main round door for better access. With hindsight I should have shown the removal of the pump. Mike

@@scottitonline thanks very much for your help. Turns out pump fine it was a breather pipe lhs clogged up with black labrador fur!!! Appears it couldnt get air replaced from pump end so would have created a vacum. Any ways many thanks again
