I asked Don for a discount code for MCM fans and he delivered! If you're in Australia or NZ use the code GEMINI on the dominos website or app for 25% off delivery or pickup traditional and premium pizzas (Until end of Jan '25!)

Overall agreed: the whole "Domino's delivery car" backstory made it feel really natural. The only bit that felt a bit contrived was putting Don on his bike when there was still room for more pizzas in the back, but clearly done for comedy purposes and he was clearly up for the whole thing; although MCM missed a trick: putting him on a Domino's delivery moped would have been way better!

Don hasn't changed much in 25 years. I worked for one of his franchised stores in '99, I even did Pizza College with him, Esme and Kerry in the old old head office in Newstead. Kerry had a turbo Supra back then and drove me to introduce me to the store where I would be assistant manager. Many good times back then.

As someone who has also just completed a 5 year ground up restoration I can't stress enough how important it is to get a top quality brake double flaring tool if you want to make custom lines. Spend a bit of time and practice cutting and cleaning the ends to be flared and don't forget the nut. It's a very satisfying job once you get the hang of it but cheap tools just will not work properly and its better to spend the money the first time for the best result.

Even with good tooling some brake lines are just SO hard they are a bugger to flare properly. The copper coated steel available many places is soft enough to bend and flare while holding up great in use.

Someone give the marketing person who pitched this Dominos promotion a rise. This is the best ad for Dominos Pizza anyone has ever done. Excellent point on hiring all your own delivery drivers. When you outsource delivery your customer service suffers and you as a customer pays more. That, and that delivery driver is actually earning a decent wage, with super being paid on top. Never driven it. I know all about these projects taking a long time, and a lot of money and knowledge to complete. We got the engine (c20xe) in mine started for the first time just a few weeks ago, and its getting close to the finishline now. Martys Gemini build has been a blast to watch, and great motivation. Man the Domino's here in the states would never be this cool! I worked for Domino's for I think close to 10 years across a few different stores here in San Diego, CA. Started out as an insider, became an assistant manager, then "demoted" to a driver after realizing they were making double my pay when I cashed them out. First car I delivered in was a Ford Escort ZX2. Eventually bought my Ford Focus ST in 2014, which I still have to this very day. Paid off all through Domino's deliveries. Sometimes I do miss working in Domino's and doing all the deliveries. But with a big boy job, I definitely make more money to support the hobbies and family that I love. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to apply and work for a few months for nostalgia's sake 🤣 banger of a video guys!

Watching this video while eating Domino's' pizza. I can remember the days of delivering for Domino's and this was pre-cell phones or GPS. We had that big map on the wall. My car at the time was a CRX. I had one delivery that was so large I needed to borrow dad's full size Chevy pickup with long bed and filled the entire bed and had to put a tarp over it. Was like 80 pies. Oddly Domino's is probably the only company that I worked for that I don't hate, or regret working for.

I was a big time Thomas Bros Maps guy when I delivered pizza back in the 90s in my 1966 AMC Rambler American 2-door. It had a 232 straight six that was smooth like butter. I had spent two years restoring it, and people were surprised I drove it so much, especially to deliver pizza. But I figured I'd already done a massive amount of restoration, replacing parts, and general maintenance stuff on it, I'd just replace more stuff as needed.

I've been a store manager for a chain pizza place awhile but for a bit I was backup delivering pizzas in my 2004 VW Golf GTI and sometimes my, at the time, my 2019 Subaru STI. It was good times. I remember one day I had been delivering since 11am and it was probably about 7 at night, I had a few hours to go. I went home to swap the STI for the GTI because I got tired of that clutch. I'm from the US. We're not used to manuals here. The GTI was so much easier to deliver in. Shifted so easy and smooth. Clutch was light. Previous dude put a burble tune on it though which was a bit annoying. People knew when I pulled up though. haha. I miss that thing. A really wise older delivery driver I worked with 10 years ago gave me a lot of advice. I didn't follow everything he told me and I really wish I did. (I should have bought a cheap car 10 years ago instead of buying newer and invested younger) I know a delivery driver that just saved his money, worked a ton of hours and bought a house cash with it back in the mid to late 2000s. He never did car loans or mortgages. He worked on his car himself. It was a 1997 Toyota Corolla. Not sure if he still has it. He invested early. Always shopped for the cheapest car insurance. I learned a lot from him. I know he has a least one maybe two pizza stores now. He basically retired early delivering pizzas.

Back before adjustable proportioning valves were commonly available if we had a rear locking problem a few minutes with a hacksaw cutting grooves in the shoes or pads reduced the area and the brake balance could be corrected. The old GM 'X-body' cars were notorious for the rears to lock up prematurely and I took the saw to many of them which worked out well. Remember there's normally more than one way to 'skin the cat' .

Hearing the way Marty would talk to his younger self about following his dreams, keep making mistakes, and trusting the path ahead was so real and made me well up a bit. I'm sure we all have things we would say to our younger selves, hindsight being 20/20, and God damn, it's so cool to see what Marty and Moog have done with this channel over the past nearly two decades. Keep it up lads ✌️

All kind of right. This dominoes is listed on the ASX (has the rights to the American brand for a region). Pretty sure some Asian countries and even European country’s dominoes are owned by this Australian version… kinda like our KFC (Collins on ASX, not YUM on NYSE).

This is one of the best episodes that Mighty Car Mods has ever done, Marty. Is there a donations page for that kids charity fundraiser, or a way of adding a bit extra onto a MCM store purchase that can be passed on to them?

I'm in Canada, and Dominos is the best pizza chain in my area, I did not know it's an Australian company. Love that the CEO came on your show, and love the genuine joy on his face doing those deliveries! I like Dominos even more now.

Been away for about a week and came back to this and the 240Z videos. Honestly, both brought serious smiles to my face. The Z is in the top 4 JDM cars for me but I so connect with the Gemini. It is the stories, the memories of my first car, the opportunity to bring back a car many would pass by to a level better than new…….. That combo truly ticks all the boxes. Thank you for sharing the journey.

Don, it would be great if you extended your part of the franchise to Poland. At the moment we are under the American part of the business. Our offering at Domino's looks really weak compared to the Australian one. I like the commitment to mental health support projects and of course the support for the MCM guys. Please come to Poland Don!

I am so happy to see the fact that Don literally is smiling throughout the entire thing and he’s totally cool with giving away Product and he’s not an uptight rude CEO like I’ve heard so many other people. Good on him and good on you guys for doing that. You surpassed the level of kindness that us Canadians are. I wish I could take a picture and post it but right now I am literally eating a small Domino’s Pizza.

My son was a Dominoes delivery driver. Casual who got no more shifts when he turned 21 (full pay), like all franchises I suppose you get the good with the bad, but expect more from such a well known brand. Love the Gem.

For those wondering, that's Strathfield Domino's. If you're ever in the area, have a go at Faheem's Fast Food about 4 doors up. Their Chicken Tikka is the best in Sydney!
