Migrate Microsoft Teams - Tenant to Tenant with MigrationWiz

Microsoft Teams - A full walkthrough of a Tenant to Tenant migration using BitTitan's MigrationWiz tool.
Here I migrate Teams from an existing tenant into a completely different tenant. This tutorial can be used stand alone or as part of the continuing series we have on the migration project moving Zeotrobe users into the new Planeium tenant.
I take you through all the configuration and preparation steps for the Teams migration showing every step along the way. The topics covered in the video are;
Setup of the permissions needed on both the Source and Target tenant
Creation of the User Account and Security group required for the MigrationWiz project
Creation of the Migration Wiz project
Autodiscovery of the source Teams and adding them into the project
Renaming a destination Team
Performing the various passes required for the scaffolding, permissions, data & membership
Discuss and demonstrate the user mappings and differences in the UPN's that can occur
Using PowerShell to easily remap users as needed
Showing the final workstation with the Teams data and what it looks like post migration

Great vid! I have some issues running the "verify credentials" ,I created the group MigrationWiz and the user with all settings required (mailbox migration succesfully with the same account). But no luck. Any tip?

Hi Paulo. Yes it was taken down because it violated the CyberBullying and Harassment policy! Part of the policy is PII (Personal Identifiable Information) as you can't display peoples email addresses etc.. Now, my demo video is full of dummy and test email addresses, which technically violate the policy. I am re-editing it, blurring out all that information. Will be back up soon. Yes, all chat history is retained. There are options in the migrations on how much or how little you want it to bring over. But essentially it does bring them.

If my exchange migration when smooth, will microsoft sync teams and one drive data automatically or will i need to move it across to the new tenant

You will need to migrate your OneDrive data as a separate project in MigrationWiz. They use different connectors and won't automatically happen for you. If you need help setting that up, drop me a note to [e-mail] and I can assist. Mark.

Quick question would you recomment migrating the tenants e-mails before doing a teams migration? Or does it not matter?

To be honest it doesn't matter from a system perspective. As long as the core identities are in the target tenant, and you license them, then all workloads are enabled obviously. At that point you are just seeding the workloads with all the data that they use. The question becomes then, when are you going live with the target accounts and what experience the users are going to have when they get there. Also is there co-existence needed or is it a big bang style migration. In summary then the answer is 'No', but the only ordering requirements are purely that of user experience. Hope that helps. No the BitTitan tool is a paid service. I haven’t come across a free option yet for a Teams migration. If anybody does know of any then please feel free to comment.

I don't get it , why you already have teams on destination tenant with the names that you are going to migrate from source ?

That's because the destination tenant was already a 'live' company. The source tenant was a company that they had purchased and were migrating in all of the source data. In this scenario then there would definitely already be content in the destination. This ties in to my previous videos, bringing in the Exchange data from that other tenant too. What license did you use for the teams migration ?

There is a 'Collaboration' License which you need to get for that. Teams migrations aren't covered in the Mailbox style UMB license.
