Thank you so much. I tried to move my subdomain to the root manually, which was a complete fail. Your method worked flawlessly :) Just a tip for others: Delete your security plugins that are on your new site, like WordFence, as they cause problems for Duplicator. Once your site is transferred to the root, you can re-install WordFence again. Thank you again.

This process should work for migrating to a new host. There may be a little downtime as the nameservers are changing, but it should be too long. Do you mind sharing which host you're moving from and which one you're moving to?

I moved from a local host in South Africa, i.e. Afrihost, to Webhost Ninja. I still have to check things out because Afrihost seems to have 'long' weekend. The nameservers have to be changed by them unfortunately because I dont have access to it. So I migrated the site but no servers is pointing to the new host yet.

Hi Guys Great Video, Ive just moved a new site from my development server to a clients new hosting. I was getting data-base errors and other problems before I decided to look at this video and use the plugin. Hi Jess, I'm happy my videos are helpful :) The "old path" should be the path to the folder that is the root directory of the old site. The one that contains the "wp-config.php" file of the old site. For some servers, the path to the root may be a directory within the main site's root directory. I hope that makes sense...

Yep, you sure can. The way I would do it is when you're ready to migrate, move all the old site folders and files into a folder called 'old-site'. Then install WordPress in the root and migrate the site from your subdomain to the main domain. If something goes wrong you can quickly delete the new WP files and move the files out of the 'old-site' folder to the root and you'll have the old site live again. I am actually doing the same thing, wordpress on sub-domain moving into main domain which is joomla. So I should put everything into 'old-site' first then go to cpanel install a fresh wordpress on main domain, and THEN use the duplicator installer file or there is no need to install a fresh wordpress first. @@ffpalad85 Hi, I know this is an old post, but for anyone who comes across this with the same question, I just followed this tutorial and moved a new site into a root that did not previously have Wordpress in. I didn't have to install Wordpress, Duplicator seems to copy all the files you need for it, so you just run the installer and Wordpress should install right along with it, at least it did for me. Also, all the logins from the site you are moving still work. I hope that helps someone, as I was nervous about it before I tried it.

Thanks for the tutorial! I will be switching my subdomain to the main one soon (hopefully!!!). One section of the tutorial I didn't quite understand was the admin login to finalize the process. Do I use my admin credentials that I set up on the subdomain or do I have to use the credentials that are there by default? Also, if I use the ones put there by default, will my original admin profiles be on the new domain? I have a few admins who have contributed to the build.

Hi Shayne, Sorry for the delay. Any time you migrate a site the logins from the site you are migrating will be the active ones. So, when migrating from a subdomain to a main domain, the admin logins from the subdomains will be the ones that work. Does that make sense and did I understand your question correctly?

Any logins that work on the subdomain will work on the main domain after you've transfer the database. That includes your admin profiles. Most plugins with licenses you enter into the plugin on your site will need to be updated after you transfer. There are a bunch of different processes to do this depending on the plugin. It's best to contact the plugin's support if you run into trouble with them. But it's usually pretty straight forward. I hope that helps!

However on the last step (STEP #$) 5 errors were reported by Duplicator in regards to database notices and they were all " DATABASE ERROR: Also, I made sure the permission for the database were all selected on the new database that was created as you described. However, the new site works well. I tested all the links and no issues. Should I be worried or ignore them as long as the site works? You got it. Think of it as just a login. The contents of the database don’t change based on the database name, user name or password. Just make sure you enter those details correctly into your WP-config.pho file

Hi Dror, When migrating a site the only thing that would affect rankings are the URLs. If the URLs are the same then you shouldn't see any change in ranking. If the URLs have changed you will need to 301 redirect all the old URLs to the new ones. Here are tutorials for that in case you need it. Brilliant tutorial👍 Just wondering does this also work with an elementor and woocommerce site? What if the subdomain name is different from that of the site where it is to be migrated to? Also, is it advisable to change the subdomain to be transferred to be changed to what the new site is to be before migrating? Your feedback will be much appreciated👍

Will this method work if I'm using the Wp Staging plugin or should I just create a subdomain in my cpanel and setup WP manually there before trying all this? I 'm not inclined to pay for the Pro version which will move everything automatically if I'm completely willing to do all this manually.
