This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.
This Core Concept video focuses on Miguel de Unamuno's work, Tragic Sense of Life, and discusses what he means by that term itself, the "tragic sense of life"

Unamuno was actually the author who brought me back to philosophy after abandoning it for a master in romance studies. Being a german hispanist, there is something absolutely captivating about his synthesis of romance and germanic traditions. Thank you so much for your work. I recently donated 10€ to you. Something that I have never done for any other KZbin personality.

That is very cool - how did Unamuno bring you back to philosophy? Thanks for that donation!

I found this because a character in episode 4 of Picard was reading it. For the last three years I've been listening to your videos when I go out for a walk in the morning. Seems like I will never run out of videos to watch.

Well, if you do run out, you could always start them again! It is indeed quite an underrated book - cool to find out that it's making its way into TV in some way

Perhaps we should discover the meaning of our lives so that it can carry us or overcome tragedies that life will present to us.

@@GregoryBSadler what about this spoke Zarathustra? It feels like it especially when you mention how the tragic sense of life compels us to slay the hydra and stay in the life of someone who's unlovable not out of obligation but to embrace the journey we are on. If this isn't correct may you say why. Thanks :)

Nah. Just reread the books and think about how they differ rather than the similarities you see

That's nice. What do you have to say about his philosophy, the text, or the video?
