This happens when you bunch up A- Class classement riders that all can potentially win a grand tour. It does seem better when you have a clear leadership because you have a clear team structure and helpers that gonna pull for you when you need them too

I think everyone knew meintjes was overall a better climber/gc rider than Eiking. It’s just that when Eiking was in Red, that’s a huge deal for a small team like intermarche, more important than Meintjes getting 12th instead of 14th, so meintjes should’ve been doing all he could to help Eiking stay in red, and then after he cracked raced for himself. i am still convinced they ride this way because Valverde is out. He wouldnt allow Lopez to attack or would have (weak) attacked Roglic later. Not like Mas who did the right thing and only marked Roglic. Valverde was right there in the last years for all the blunders Movistar made. he definitley is part (imo a big part) of the reason they rode how they rode.

@elliotbain8260

@@elliotbain8260 I would agree normally but this wasnt 2 people sprinting max. Roglic was sprinting, Mas was just riding as fast a pace as he could. Really did seem like ROglic had more left in the tank imo.

@@elliotbain8260 respectively I disagree. Mas sat on wheels till the end with Roglic doing most of pulling and yet Roglic gaps Mas at the end. Felt sorry for Lopez in that after all that hard work the camera shot of him crossing the line showed just a thick mist and it was only about 5m later that you can make him out. Fully agree that he needs to be riding as number 1 in a GC tour next year without another leader competing with him. I think Mas was at his limit as evidence by Roglic accelerating away from him just before the line to take second with a time gap and also get the bonus seconds. Chapeau Bernal for his effort and proving his talent. I can see why Romain Bardet was pissed at his teammate taking his jersey but the more I see of Micheal Storer the more it's clear he is ruthless.

I guess most of the peloton is not interested in sufering like today's stage but as for 'show' /' ratings' you can't deny yesterday and today Colombians made cycling the must see thing on live TV. is insane what they can do, as for Rogla, maybe he can endure but how much how high can stay is true he is the best but todays test is not an A or B+ for rogla chapeau to rogla to use brains to excel on 2 of the most insane back to back stages in the last 5 years.
