I had a horrible abusive father and I used to spend my days in the local park with the latch key dogs. They were the dogs just thrown out in the morning and let in again at night. I ran with a pack of 8 dogs and they saved me from an X offender. All my life animals have been my best friends and salvation. Lots of people love animals but few relate to them. You are one of the few and I thank and love you for it. Dogs are the greatest love of all and I thank God for them and will love them till my last breath and then be reunited with my darlings who have gone before.

Although not as extreme... my story is a lot like yours. I too imagine an afterlife where I will be reunited with all the ANIMALS I've befriended in my life. They have treated me better than any human has. Sending you love.

She's beautiful!! Her eyes were red like she had been crying. Thank you for giving her a loving home. She must have been so traumatized. I rescheduled one of my dogs that had been abandoned on the highway. He was standing over his friend who I think was hit by a car and died. My rescue cried in his sleep for months after. Anyone that says dogs don't have a soul are misinformed.

If you don't have family or friends who would take your dog if something happened to you, can you find a chihuahua or small-dog rescue organization that would take her? Could you scope out a place now, so that if something happens to you, your loved ones/friends will know to contact that organization? Just a thought.

@@andydufresne5297 I tried that & couldn't find one single place that would commit to taking my dog if I passed away. I started trying to think of somehow starting a website that animal lovers could commit to this type of thing between each other. Still lost on how to make something like this work. I am at the age I am concerned if I get another dog I could pass away first but hate not having a dog or cat in my life. Not having love at all is not healthy for the soul.

I wonder if it makes any difference if one's dog is purebred, since there are often breed-specific clubs around, and you'd hope they'd be there to help out. Anyway, I have exactly the same concern. I suppose that if I really get to the point of "needing" another dog, I could foster one, which is a shorter commitment. I think 2 or 3 of Lee's dogs were older dogs whose owners had passed...

Its amazing to watch this strange, brand new dog, being 'ok,' when she gets out of the truck and all the dogs run to her. And THEY are all very chill, actually. I feel that Lee is a true alpha and they all sense that this is a good scenario, Lee's got this and he is in charge. They take their cues from him. Normally I feel that , that many dogs would go berserk when a new dog came out of the truck, but this was a totally peaceful introduction.

The way these babies shine when they come out of those shelters is amazing. They know they're being saved and taken out of there. They then show you sooo much love and appreciation it's beautiful. I found your videos right after we lost our 10-1/2 year old golden retriever to cancer and your videos and the work you do have been part of my healing. We adopted a dog, rescued from a kill shelter in the south. In our late 70s, we asked to be paired with a "middle aged, gently used" dog and she makes me laugh every day. She seems to be a lab mix but there's a very healthy helping of couch potato in her and just looking at her makes her tail wag. When you speak to her it wags faster. And if you get excited, her tail goes around in circles. Her name is Sophie but we've decided "Sopha" fits her better as that's where we generally find her. Your videos always make me smile. Thank you for posting and for the work you do.

One of my dogs we took in when my mother in law died, almost 4 years ago now..... Bailey is my pups name, and she was home when her momma died.... it was sudden, while my mom in law was sleeping.... Luckily my other 3 pups and her knew each other so everyone got along so well amd she fit in. I know she missed her mama, my mom in law, but she's handled the transition so well. Thank you for what you do for these animals! Love your videos, I cry when you do, smile when you do.

I have volunteered for years and the first task I ever had was going to a shelter and taking the dogs out for a walk. Unfortunately, because they're already traumatized by the noises and experience in the shelter you can only really walk one at a time but this would have been my dream ... to be able to let the dogs off leash and just walk in nature! *_PS for those that think these stories are heartwarming please considering donating or volunteering at your local shelter or sanctuary._* It's a wonderful network and you'll never regret it!
