@@RustyMadd Me too. I was thinking of doing this tune and heard a nice version the other day so I did a search and found this. I was wondering how it was getting those low notes to drone and thought perhaps he had tuned the G and D strings up to A and E. I'll give it a try now. Thanks Michael Keyes for confirming.

AEAE - has to be to be able to drone those two bottom strings and play in the key of A.

It's cross tuning - AEAE. Fiddlers tune this way a lot in old time settings.

Mandolin in saw mill tuning AEAE,an old fiddle tuning allowing for the droning sound you hear on this old time fiddle tune.Old time fiddle tunes almost allways repeat over and over and over like this one.
