fender created the bass guitar as a way for lower octaves to be accessible to guitarist who didnt have time to learn upright bass or wanted to. Over the years electric bass guitar became a style of its own, but still is the guitar equivelent of the upright bass. So in my opinion a bass guitar is different than a double bass. Its a guitar tuned to lower octaves that is used to mimic double bass. if it mATTERS to anyone

and for punk rock its different. if youwere a bass player in many punk bands, you can learn alot of songs because there based off of power chords. guitar players in punk cant just play bass because lets take welcome to paradise. whole different monster on the bass. if its just a simple bass line like knowledge then he can. unless he has experience.
