Arguably, one of the longest and straightest driver of the ball, and one of the best swings. Especially since Mike used a 44 inch driver but had a clubhead speed of 151 mph, and with a persimmon headed, steel shafted driver.

I use to hit balls at the Whitsett driving range in Sherman Oaks. I would see mike Austin over many years giving lessons to countless golfers. I could kick myself for never taking lessons from him , tho I did watch him a lot.

he was a pure striker of the ball. he didn't go for the huge arm extension in attempt to get a full turn before the right arm started to bend, as become a recent modern trend. he allowed his right elbow to move back naturally and let the swing flow. power came from his technique; but he was, in the main, extremely powerful.

Beautiful leverage, HOGAN type swing. Love that Persimmon wood sound. And his right arm is not flying all over the place. GREAT.

I have to agree this is one hell of a swing. Kind of wondering why we don't see this type of technique more on tour, kind of reming me of Snead and Mike Austin pivots

In Austinology, Mike Austin said that Dunaway is probably the longest hitter that ever lived....seeing this video I'd say he's a contender....the ball speed is phenomenal with that equipment.

probably the most graceful swing I've ever seen, up there with Snead and Payne Stewart

boom chakalaka!! Just can't stop watching this swing for the past months.... best swing I've seen with Mike Austin's and Sam Snead What's his problem? Why he's not on tour? Bad short game? Bad putter? Fall on pressure??

If you are watching this swing and want to learn more about it mike had a video called the world's greatest driver. The power comes from his right hip thrusting forward like you would kicking a soccer ball. The arms come flying through so fast and the ball gets smashed. Incredible swing. Sadly Mike passed a few years ago. Rip Mike. This video of your swing will still be amazing 100 years from now.

marry the right elbow to the right hip and let the pivot power the swing

Dunaway kills it and Mike Austin was a genius. Had the pleasure of working with Mike Austin for years. I've posted clips at mentoredbythelegend. Effortless power with no strain or pain.

@natep513 I'm a few hours away. I thought about maybe visiting for a few lessons. I'm self taught (use the Austin style swing) and would probably benefit tremendously with his guidance. This is one of the best golf videos I've ever seen on youtube. He looks like a machine. Thanks for posting it and replying!

I agree with everyone below that this is a beautiful, powerful and perfect golf swing. It has an element to it of a young Fuzzy Zoeller. But I don't see this as being a Mike Austin swing because here Mike Dunaway keeps his elbow in close. There's a video of Mike Austin teaching a lady -- and in that video he told her that he didn't want her to keep her elbow in tight. And Mike Austin didn't keep his elbow in tight like Mike Dunaway does here. Does this make sense? But this swing is great!!

Yes, Mike austin put it all together. He sets up a framework where you can validate each part of your swing.

nice simple swing. Very strong man obviously so that has something to do with all the distance. And whats interesting is he seems to flip the club soon past impact which is something that the modern guys and long drivers do not do. What's sad is that I hear he is hospitalized with diabetes now. IMO he became very overweight and this was the cause though it could be genetic. I believe that people might want to consider the correlation between obesity and diabetes just as we have long since come to realize the correlation between smoking and various cancers. I hope he gets recovery and a return to good health.

@natep513 How far you think Dunaway would crush one of today's drivers in his prime? I'm thinking 370 carry regularly...

This video makes nonsense of the modern insistence on 'posting up" on your left leg as a so-called absolute requirement for increasing distance.
