@@steven_scattergood I’ve been a painter for over 30 years (now a rep for a big paint company) and I’ve yet to meet any painter that would spend his weekend repainting a car for some cigarettes and chips. Especially after spending 40-50 hours in a panel shop during the week for a very average wage for an Australian tradesman. I used to make $500-$1000 a weekend back in the early 90’s so now I’m guessing most painters would want at least a few grand, and that’s at mates rates.

In 1977 I bought my very first car, it was a 1971 HG Holden panel van, had a 186 (3.0L) straight six, and a ‘three on the tree’ manual gearbox. I then gave it a heart transplant, put in a 307 (5.0L) Chevy V8, with a two speed powerglide auto, it went like a rocket! If only I still had the van (and the beat up HK Monaro I took the 307 Chev out of), both would be worth a bloody fortune. Anyway.... Surfing wasn’t out thing, shaggin was our thing. Friday night at the Dundas drive-in, all the panel vans were parked backwards at the back, tail gate open, laying on the mattress with your girl watching the movie. At regular intervals the tail gates of the vans would close and a bit of shaggin would take place, those were the days! The old panel van was usually called a ‘shaggin wagon’ or a ‘sin bin’ or my favourite, a ‘fuck truck’. Memories..... Cheers,

From memory it was similar to when Holden went to red motors (EH) from grey (EJ). Towards the very end of the last run of EJ's there were a few that left the factories with red motors. It did say but I forget the reason, probably just ran out of grey engines for the body shells remaining or something.
@astrawally84485 ай бұрын
@@FromTheGong sorry to say but that's been a myth since the 1960s and everyone has a mate who swears that they had an EJ with a factory fitted 149 (red). The problem with this myth is that no one has ever been able to provide any evidence except for one car, which was a known prototype and fitted not because they ran out of engines - noting also as was and still is common practice, GMH used to build more engines than they needed for immediate production to use as spares, service replace, warranty etc. The other issue with this is that the EJ front end was different to the EH as the engine mounts between the grey and red motors were completely different, as were the gearbox mounts, so without a lot of production line retooling (plus testing), it would not have been feasible to make these changes so close to end of model, and for so few models - so few that not one has turned up since.

You people only spend this much time hating of someone they like . Thankyou for the compliment , tell me what's ya mate driving now ? Don't tell me he's got 4.4 litre 302 chev ??? Correct 💯😁, oh oh sorry engineered , or oh I know a small block 332 FE Ford motor !. Lol , got any other " engineered" cars ! And if your dud mate needed to engineer a 302 W in a Capri he's dumber than you told me , mine never was and why would you , do what we all did and put 289 W valve covers on a 302 ! Simple like you ! Oh ya got me smiling one that one .

I had a 5lit HX Sandman 4speed in the 80s it went like a rocket but could have done with a 5th gear. It was metallic blue with GTS dash and black factory int. After I got married I traded it in and got a 5lt HZ Statesman Caprice white with white vinyl roof and chrome spoke wheels. It looked like Malcomb Frazer the prime ministers car. I had a drunk bloke throw a empty stubby at the car, he though I was him.

It was better with a 5.0 ltr ( 308 ci) V8. Even better with an aftermarket 350 Chev.

350cfm holly, disconnect the Vac advance, the WB jade electronic ignition just advance it. It's a 202 holden, carrying on about the cooling system is hilarious, any true aussie know a 202 is the nosy reliable engine in the world. Dragged plenty out of the bush and put soke fuel down the pots and fired up after decades of sitting

These Utes are like the Ford Capri in our world. Alltho the ford van's have allways been a favorite too. Offcourse there is the VW van that is incredible popular.
