But come on, bringing up the retirement question for a QB who’s 28 and currently the best in the game IS weird. And I KNOW you’re not a hater. But, it just is, objectively so. Btw, if you count the years between Patrick and his 45th birthday, there’s no reason to ask that question anytime soon. I’m guessing you didn’t have much to write about and a Mahomes story is probably as good a go to as anything.

The answer to this is Mahomes has 3 rings. Burrow has 0 so he's still hot on the chase of 1. Depending on how he's wired, at some point Mahomes will have done it ALL. Why grind through more seasons? Not everybody is wired like Brady. I mean even Jordan took a break. It's a hard grind that requires the sacrifice of your family. It was easy for Brady to do in his younger years, but as you age, that becomes way more difficult. In the celebration video his kids made for him when Brady was inducted into the Pats HOF, his kids made it clear, they don't want him to play anymore. Mahomes will reach that at some point.

It’s the slow sports season so if we’re going to speculate on when Patrick will retire here’s a clue. His 10 year contract expires after the 2029-30 season, Andy Reid’s new extension expires after the 2029-30 season and will be 72 more than likely ready to retire and Mahomes will be 34-35 by then having played 12 seasons. Kelce is retiring in 2-3 years, Jones in 3-5 years as well as Steve Spagnuolo. They are playing out the rest of this decade hoping to be the first team ever to 3 Peat for ring 4 and could have 4-5 rings by 2030 and go down as the most dominant team of all time. Patrick will play out the rest of his contract and retire as a 4-5 time champ having won his 4th & possibly 5th ring at a significantly faster rate than Tom Brady with 3-4 MVP’s. His legacy will be set
@thefiguredude4 ай бұрын
Mahomes is not retiring in 5 seasons. That’s absurd. Mayfield, Watson, Goff, Dak, Carr, Geno, Russell Wilson, Cousins, Stafford, Rodgers are all older than Mahomes. The dude will have nothing to prove. Tom Brady has warped everyone’s minds into thinking everyone should & play into their mid 40’s. Patrick already said he will prioritize his kids over football. Mahomes is better at quarterback than Brady, and earlier. Side note- Brady's "7th ring" was parachuting into a team full of all stars on every level. And don't even look at how the refs hilariously escorted him through so many close games that turned into 'wins'. Aging stars , like every QB, need a great supporting cast. But landing on a clearly ready-made Super Bowl competitive dream team doesn't cement anything in terms of "the greatest" QB. .5-6 QBs likely could have taken that TB team to a super bowl. It wasn't an "only Brady can take us to the SB situation". That's why as clear as his talent is, he probably knows he's only the greatest if you ignore a lot of situational tail winds he benefitted from his entire career. Yes, Mahomes had offensive weapons early on, and has finally gotten defensive support. But Mahomes 'didn't get the ball back' and "tough sht". (whereas Josh Allen didn't get the ball back and they changed the rules.) Mahomes has had a steeper climb, achieved more, and displayed as much or more raw talent than the talented Tom Brady.

Maybe wait until Patrick is 35 or 40 before you worry about him retiring. What are you trying to do, be the first one to report his retirement?

Did you watch what Nick Wright said? He made a joke in passing, and half of Florio’s points were based off an article about what he said and not what he actually said

Florio has a point, maybe Patrick Mahomes doesn't want to be like Brady. Maybe he will play for 8 more years and then he stays with his family. TB 12 sacrificed a lot of family time in order to play football.

Whenever topics like this come up it makes me mad, not about the player, but brady. His marriage was already wrecked why not see how long a human can play qb at an adequate level. Perhaps the bucs weren't great, but brady had 4000+ yards. He was they guy whom should have played until his backup was better than him. When would that have happened? Maybe 46, 48 perhaps even 50. I'm a bit agnostic toward brady, but it's clear he was the guy to real life prove whats possible in human performance in terms of age for quarterbacking. He wanted to also, but he tried to play middle of the road so he retired too early & lost his marriage. He either should have retired in 2020 or 2027, nothing in between.

Mike you know its better to do it just the way you doing it now otherwise you would have called him to see what's up and show him how to do it lol. Thanks for the gift.

My only criticism of Mike is the same one I would have about a lot of sports wrters/media personalities. He doesn't make it clear enough when he is just speculating (made up) vs a story confirmed by 2 separate sources (OG reporting minimum requirement to publish a story). Also, that he thinks there is a huge difference between made-up and what he calls his educated guesses based on his experience. Quoting a judge from an old case... it's a distinction without a difference.

Dang. Hit piece on the KC Star. Oil and corn is subsidized, journalism isn't. Gotta make some cash. And you characterized Patrick retiring like it's gonna be in the next few years. You're right, he's not going to play fifty years but he will probably play at least ten more. Just a little disingenuous to suggest we should start thinking about the post Mahommes era. I like it when you cover legal stuff though.

Florio and Wright, the 2 Biggest 'Hyperbole' Speaking Analyst on TV today... So it's very interesting, as well as hilariously funny, that they're at odds over a random, who really cares, 'hot take' topic... They both need to chill and sip on a Zanax martini😮

I'm a fan of Florio and Simms. But Florio is getting the tone wrong lately. If anything, Nick was propping Mike's show up, not the other way around. And, 2ndly, it seems like Mike got his feelings hurt pretty easily a little like Aaron Rodgers does-- prickly and narcissistic much? And finally, why go after KC fans-- I don't know what KC fans are making you this angry with the subject but stop listening to them. I am a Chiefs fan and trust me, no one is offended at your take or really even cares. Its a slow time and Nick and Mcafee both gave you some good pub. Just take the win and stop sounding so bitter.

I would say one thing on this subject. Tom Brady has people, including myself, thinking the standard is going to be to play until you are at least 40 at the QB position. Even with all the modern training and nutrition that was still not normal at all. Hell Tom's career was not normal overall. He had like 3 different careers at one point it was like a decade gap between rings. It will all depend on how Mahomes evolves his play style. Which I think he has already done to an extent. He knew playing backyard style QB was not something that was sustainable and has become more efficient. Only time will tell. The NFL is weird. He could win 2 more or never win another.

It’s like asking Brady or Jordan when they will retire, when they were not even 30…and just started winning chips. When everyone knows they could play another 8- 10 years. It’s being stupid. Take an L Florio on this.

I think Patrick Mahomes will retire at the age of 40 if he has not won as many or more then Tom Brady. If he wins his eighth Super Bowl before the age of 40, he may retire before the age of 40. Superbowls are special. it’s hard to make it to one let alone win it.
@iceberg543214 ай бұрын
Let me explain it to you Florio. Nick mostly makes his money talking about the future of the Chiefs. You are driving your car into his lane, and break checking him. What do you expect exactly?

Think about it. If they win the SB this year, he'll have 4. Only 3 away from Brady. So that will give him 10 years to win 3 more SBs, and he can retire the GOAT at 38.
