In Ft Lauderdale Spring Break both in 68' and 69'. This song was all over the airwaves and I loved it. Always thought it was April 69'.

What an an amazing story. I was always fascinated with this song when I heard it as a kid and have lived it since all these years. There was something about the harmonies, the tempo, there voices blending, sometimes I’m not sure what, but it just sounded great and still is magical to me. Thanks so much for spending the 20 bucks! What a steal although a lot in those days! Those darn Beatles. Get Back was a good song, but if it were not for them being the Beatles it were some other no name group, Mercy would have had a number one hit!

I heard this song right after getting some teeth pulled. My dad picked up my mom and me. I was groggy from anesthesia and laying down in back seat of car. AM radio only, WOWO in Fort Wayne, Indiana . Hearing it eased the pain. Never forgot it. I was 12 years old in 1969. Mercy

Mercy was a heavy metal band, this was a novelty recording.

I have that Sundi 45. Never bought the Warners re-release.
@michaelfox81474 жыл бұрын
The Sundi one was the hit, They got screwed over by the label after they signed with Warner Brothers. Sundi releasing an album by "Mercy" which was a fake band. They had to re-record it on WB for the REAL Mercy album. James Marvell was with the band after the Sundi version of the group.

Well now that makes sense as to why there are 2 albums about a year apart both by bands called mercy...
@michaelfox81474 жыл бұрын
James Marvell... of course just a sub player, never an actual Mercy member. He subbed for the leader of Mercy: Jack Sigler Jr. when he went into the Navy. James tells a lot of lies about his time with Mercy. And that's straight from Jack and Ronnie.... the writers of both sides of their only hit.

Well his new version of the song absolutely sucks. It's pretty easy to tell he wasn't somebody important in the band, I don't think anybody in the band would ever ruin such a classic and stunningly beautiful song with this crap version.
@michaelfox81474 жыл бұрын
@@heronpage3883 TOTALLY agree. And actual members have said he lies for his own gain. Fools a lot of people.

@@heronpage3883 dragged down to the level of a garth brooks song not the captivating somber melancholy love song of the late 1960s that it was. this band should have been put in a hollywood studio to record in 1967 and then mass marketed not ignored until 1969.

i would like to know all the information associated about each singer and the musicians involved in this and what their motivation and thinking was at the time it was recorded.

one of the absolute best love songs of the last 55 years. did the band have training in singing or music?
@dampergoldenrod41562 жыл бұрын
a massively overpromoted marketing machine called the beetles beat out an incredible song like this which might not have ever been heard if not for this DJ. this song should have been re recorded in the 1980s as an upbeat rock or dance song.
