Hello Chris, Thank you for this interview with Mike. Nice work. It was wonderful to hear Mike talk about all those records. Like yourself, I have been listening MK music since the early 90s, and his music has a huge influence on me. He is truly a beautiful human being and amazing artist. Thanks again ,Tom

This is one of the most locked in interviews I've ever heard! Chris KNOWS his stuff, KNOWS Mike's stuff, and it makes an easily listenable interview that never gets boring! BRAVO!

I followed MK since hearing his solo recording on Giant Tracks, tribute to Gentle Giant, back in the 80s. I saw MK live at Encinitas record store with his guitarist and other events including Zappa Band recently. He is consummate musician in all styles on keys and especially guitar with extraordinary vocals. Thank you MK for all your contributions 💖🙏

This is great! Mike's catalog is a vast universe of musical brilliance and each album is like taking a trip to a different galaxy. I've spent countless hours listening to this stuff for over 30 years. And after all this time he is still producing awe inspiring artistry as I am now experiencing with the new record, The Thing That Knowledge Can't Eat. Thanks for this conversation!

Egg Zooming is my absolute favorite track off of Sluggo! That kind of quasi-Mahavishnu section from circa 4:44 just kills me.

MK, I first heard you when I bought the 88 Zappa shows on cassette when they came out. When HAT came out I got that and followed your music ever since... I remember on NAPSTER I got a copy of Upstairs at Nicks! Been hooked ever since lol... When I was at work all I listened to for a long time was RADIO KENEALLY... I miss that one! Great interview! Thank you for this.

Thanks to you and Mike for taking the considerable time to discuss these amazing albums! I could listen for another 2 1/2 hours. Hoping for a part 2!

The greatest guitar moment I have ever witnessed came in a solo during the Dancing tour. The show was in Lexington KY. When asked about my favorite concerts, I always mention that show in Lexington. Changed my life or at least the way I would approach the guitar.

That "stack of DATs" changed my life. I was in the same studio a week later doing my own project and Joe Statt mentioned MK and that project. I'd seen MK around San Diego a few times but not performing his own stuff. I'd asked dumb questions the week before Frank died. But the moment at Anza studio really piqued my interest so I kept an eye out for a show. A few months later, I saw MK at the Casbah where my head was ripped off in the great tradition, and I bought BTDS on the spot and altered the course of my life in conjunction with also gettin' the King Crimson religion a few months later. It all hit like lightning in that 21st year of my life. --Fuckin' Ed

Really a fun conversation. I met MK in Portland, Oregon when Boil and The Mistakes albums had come out, and later interviewed him with Steve Vai during a G3 tour (with Satriani and Eric Johnson). After I moved to Germany I got to see him with his power trio near Freiburg and we had a brief conversation, and most recently saw him in Karlsruhe. So much of his catalog I've been listening to for ages, and it's fun to hear him talk about Dog which I've been surprised the material largely hasn't been in his live sets. I can't wait to hear more of his material and the surprises he throws into his compositions/performances. I'd love to see MK collaborate with some others, like Adrien Belew where the vocal performances would be really cool. Keep the gems coming!!!!

This was absolutely awesome!!! Thank you both for going fully in-depth about everything here. These are the kinds of interviews that we all love to watch (at least I think so). I recently started listening to MK's catalog just over a year ago, and it has been such a great discovery to have found. In a similar vein, I also have really loved Marco Minnemann's solo catalog. I haven't been able to find an interview with Marco similar to this one, about his solo work. I'd really like to hear about everything from his projects over the years, especially about ones like Contraire de la Chanson, which don't get brought up in too many conversations. I'm so glad to have found these guys, they have very much shaped what kind of things I listen to, and how I have started to write my own songs. Finding Sluggo during college last year was a very neat crossover to what Chris mentioned in the video, since he also found it when he was in college too. I would *definitely* come back to watch a second interview about the Scambot trilogy if you guys do another discussion together. Thanks again for the great talk today, it was awesome to hear about all of the good things from the albums over the years, and all of the things that didn't work out, and how you learned from that. I was curious about why you didn't like the Dancing album, and now I understand why. Now I want to go check it out! Just about to get the new album on Bandcamp myself; I found Dog just a few months ago too. I'm "Wing Beat Ecstatic" for both finding more material from over the years from you, and all of the future things you release with years to come! Congrats on all of your hard work over the years.
