I agree with Coach K on adopting a FIBA like approach for use basketball. Most states STILL don't have shot clocks for HS basketball which is absurd.

I remember one game I went to at my high school where one possession turned into a broken play or something…and our team just kept passing for a good 90 seconds and made no attempt to shoot or drive the lane. Utterly ridiculous that 9 years on from that (at least from the last time I checked here in Georgia) we don’t have shot clocks in high schools

It’s terrible.. here in Ohio I’ve seen teams who because they were way less talented than the other team, score the first basket of the game, the other team miss on their first possession, the less talented team gets the rebound then they play keep away for the whole quarter in hopes to win the game 2-0.. now the more talented team can try to force a turnover, get a 5 second closely guarded call to get the ball back.. theres things like that the more talented team can do.. but playing keep away shouldnt even be a possible strategy and the only way to eliminate it is to have a shot clock

I love Coach K. I'm a Duke alum. I lead with that to say if we lift the restrictions on practice time, on top of paying the athletes, then I want to eliminate college sports. Lifting practice time restrictions means we're not even pretending to give these kids an education. One thing that I respected the most about K during my time at Duke, he always had the student managers go around to each class to make sure players were there. That indicates some level of caring about the kids getting educated. If they practice more than 20 hours a week, they won't be able to major in anything of consequence.

Because there has to be a balance of time usage. Collage basketball players are *student athletes* they are supposed to be getting an education, that meets actually academic standards.

@@wills2140 Europeans HS and college are much more difficult. I have 5 kids, 3 went to the USA for HS senior year. I have 4 college and graduate degrees from the USA. If you have a full basketball ride as I did, there is plenty of time to practice 2 per day! HS is much longer in the USA, not better. It leaves less time for two a day 🏀

Coach K confirms what I said. NBA players do not play the same basketball than FIBA. Different ball (Steve Curry never got use to it), different court size, smaller 3p area, no 3sec paint rule, more paint traffic, more defense physicality, different referee game approach, less game time, and so on. It’s like comparing NCAA and NBA basketball. Both are named the same, but are different approaches. The more international game evolves, the less medals EEUU will win. And the less NBA adjust their rule set to FIBA rule set, the worst they are going to make internationally.

Like any team the Lakers have to hope they can have a healthy season. They can win 5, maybe 6 more games - but the summer "mileage" of LeBron *and* Anthony Davis in the Olympics is not necessarily "good" for the Lake show (Davis can be "fragile"). But Rui is playing for Japan too, who knows what Reddish and Vaderbuilt can do.

Hold up now. If you eant to go down this argument of sports and scholastics then let's really talk about it. College sports shouldn't exist. If you want to persue sports then go to a minor league or something outside of acedemics. Should have NEVER been a thing for any of these sports. Colleges should be a place for higher education. I've felt this way my whole life. However, no, before you turn 18 and you are in middle school and high school there should definitely be restrictions. We can't have kids chasing fantasies at all expense to their brain development. These people have to live in society. And with the way this country continues to push more social programs everyone else is on the hook for your uneducated stupidity. IMO, a hogher education like college is something different and shouldn't be expected or required for grown adults that want to persue athletic paths. The argument that it makes them "more well rounded" or something misses the point. They should have come out of high school with enough education at that point, making them sit through more in college doesn't do them any good and just takes away from people that should be seeking that higher education. But again, during your years as a MINOR, like in high school, there should be restrictions and you should be forced to learn enough to come out into the world as a functioning adult.
