Hi, nice video, I still have a few questions about the Magloop, the coaxial cable for the double loop is exactly 6 meters long, right? How long is the copper pipe that is bent into a small loop? And now the most important question, does the Magloop also make the 80 meter band 3.6 MHz or does it only start from the 40 meter band? Definitely a great project, thanks for showing it. 73 Jörg

I made a loop using copper tubing using two 9m x 18mm and to form 2 half loops and bend them around a 700c bicycle wheel clamped in a black and Decker work mate and joined them together with a copper joint sleave . The diameter is about 5ft resonated on 80 m and 40m band. using about 150 pf ?
@joewoodchuck3824
@joewoodchuck3824 4 жыл бұрын
Another way to attach coax feedline is to use short solid wire soldered to the tubing first, then solder the coax to the solid wire. This allows any amount of heat on the feed loop and minimum heat to the coax. Good video.

Hi Mike probably a daft question to the initiated, Am I correct in assuming the coax feeding the antenna connects to the small loop , And is physically not connected to the big loop? The capacitor is connected to the big loop as adjusts the swr ? If This is the case how is it possible for arcing to occur in the capacitor when things aren't right , I've been scratching my head for the last hour 😊👍

You culd have shorten the cap a couple of plates and decrease the capacity by adding spacers, something like chimneys. Just to get the voltage handling higher. Also the mangnetich loop is challenging because the high voltage and current. So a clip like that on the capacitor might cause a lot off loses 🤔 great idea though It's nice to watch you build your stuff and I'm getting good ideas for my own projects from you, thanks and keep up the great work. 73 de OH2FHJ

I was thinking about using the microbore central heating pipe for the main loop not sure how much it would change the calculations, I think for me might be easier to come by. I've also heard that these loops are much quieter so maybe you can do a follow up video comparing the noise levels with your other antennas. Nice job Mike very enjoyable to watch!

do the test of putting horizontal the ring, in theory it will become omnidirectional and it will exclusively capture the signals (and noise) that arrive from "just above the horizon" (in theory the electrical noise of nearby towns will not be captured or will be captured very attenuated given the great directivity of these antennas)

Very nice build, though watching you cut that lovely capacitor in half was painful. It is perfectly shaped to fit inside an 18 inch length of 5 or 6 inch diam PVC pipe which would perfectly weatherproof the entire assembly. A short length of thinner pipe, such as the support pipe you used, could then be butt-joined to the top of the capacitor pipe to serve as the top support for the loop while also providing clearance for the coupling loop.
