To SoulCall : He holds his pick with thumb and MAJOR, not index. That's not unique, I know at least one other guitarist, in a complete different style, Mattias Eklundh.

@Ginger jam check Pat metheny.

Anyone who holds it with three fingers is holding it mainly with the major too. Kurt, Bernstein, Van Ruller, Metheny...

@jazztom86, On this particular tune, some of the changes are hard to solo on, and without Aaron's tactful chordal support, it would be too empty since Mike is not doing a chord-melody solo here. As a guitarist, I'd love to have Aaron's level of percussive and melodic bass-like chord support on this tune. This session was also recorded (obviously not a live feed) with a very prominent piano sound. A better mix in recording would have done justice to both Mike and Aaron.

As much as I love Aarons playing, I think he should leave more space to Mike, both when he's soloing and comping. I mean, we know he's a great pianist, and that he could do everything on his own, but he's not really interacting with Mike, I think, he's covering him with to much playing. I hate comparing musicians, but I think the Metheny Mehldau version is more equilibrated. It's easy for a pianist intimidating a guitarist by playing a lot of big chords, but that's not making music together.IMHO

Have to disagree with you on this. In this duet format, AP is effectively playing the bass and percussion parts beneath the note runs of MM. This would sound pretty thin without some reasonably strong colours being added beneath, especially at this tempo. Together, with bass and drums, they are a very different beast.

I totally agree...jazz about interacting...I'm not sure Aaron knows Mike is in the room

jazztom86 . I never heard him get in the way. So i have to disagree. It sounded good. They were together rhythmically, harmonically, melodically, stayed on same page with form. What more do you want you snob.

I agree, i would like to hear Mike better when he comps AP, beside that they're both amazing musicians

I have Invisible Cinema, and I love that Album. But it's not what he's doing right here. I'm not saying he's a bad musician. I'm saying that in my opinion he should leave more space to Mike here.
