Such beautiful music. You'd never know where his melodic lines will land the first time hearing it. Eventually they become one with your entire being. Hypnotic.

This is the 1976 release of HG and by far the best. Dear Mike Oldfield: please make this version the standard release into the future for your legacy as you have ruined HG with the recent chaotic mix, and the original cruder 1974 mix. Remember what you wrote in 1976 about how much more musical and clearer this mix was, and you know you were at your musical best in 1976 between Ommadawn and Incantions. Regards, Future Humanity.

This album could have been a Masterpiece. Unfortunately Mike Oldfield didn't use his estimated net worth of $245 million. to pay a music technician to edit out the awful high pitched hissy sibilance sound @ the higher ''Ahhhh ' vocals part ? Listen to the ''ahhhhhh ahhhhh part ,and you will notice a terrible hissy or zzzzzzzz sound on the high chorus vocals. This sound is in every single upload of Hergest Ridge -across the internet. Arrrghhh.

I could not agree with you more!! This tops the 74 mix, and I hate the modern mix. It over salted everything.

The oboe at 8:43. Why, oh why that moment is hidden and ruined in the late mixes.
@GregorSass-Ranitz Жыл бұрын
@@Sancho_RetablezYes, it fits in perfect, although it's "just" a wooden instrument and not electrically powered. Brings unexpected and great joy to listen to it's solo.

Well said. Sadly, like many artists needing to get by they will sell out for some commercial releases to extend their more popular efforts with their fans. Mike is only human.

This year around the 10th of May I stood on Hergest Ridge. It's a hill on the border from Wales to England, near a small town called Kington. I was travelling England and Wales with my Triumph Bonneville. Came from Switzerland and first went up to Lake District to visit a friend. On the mainroad I saw this sign "Hergest Gardens", so I decided to drive up the hill. The gardener there at this wonderful park told me that this is indeed the famous hill where Mike used to walk. His studio was on the other side of the valley. Makes listening to this album even more special! However the album that opened the ears to a 12 years old boy was "Tubular Bells".

I am 62, in my 20s Mike Olfield tuned straight into my soul. Still got this album and Ommadawn on original vinyl. Also liked Claire Hamill. So interesting what grabs you when you are young. In contrast I also headbanged to Deep Purple and Rush.

Me too. Everything on this channel is from my collection. I've got a bunch of Mike Oldfield. I was 15 when I first heard Incantations. I also loved Iron Maiden. Cheers!

Thanks for uploading this. Maybe it's me, but I do prefer this version. Many moments that are missed or spoiled in the new mixes, like the beautiful oboe entering at 8:42

It’s not just you. Read the comment by NoreenHolzten below and all the replies. Everyone wishes this version was made standard by Oldfield rather than the mess of a remix he did in 2010 and the original album 74 rushed mix. This 1976 version is miles above the rest and it should be a scandal if Oldfield continues to not use this as the standard release.
@ContactBaroqueHallАй бұрын
Everyone who has heard it prefers this version (1976). The question is why Oldfield isn’t making it the standard release when you order it now. Right now only the dreadful 2010 release comes up which is a disaster. Mike seriously needs to make this version the standard release. 1976. Not 1974. And definitely not 2010.

Also the buildup from 4:00 to 6:30 is another highlight. The removal of the snare drum makes the guitar and bass accompaniment the forefront them and tone is spectacular. Then the melody comes in first with electric clean, followed by overdrive electric. It builds and builds. The 1974 version misses this as the electric guitar climax is completely absent and replaced with the accompaniment theme played with electric guitar but this should be far more subtle. The 2010 fades the main melody (during clean electric first repeat) in and out chaotically - dreadful. Also the section from 6:30 onwards also far better in this 1976 version as you have the incredible farfisa tones in the background, and the whole album is structurait perfect from beginning to end.

This version is from Boxed, mixed in surround sound lol so unless you have the 4 speakers set up the Trumpet solo disappears in a muddy mix what a bloody shame Ted Hobart earned his money on this piece. I still have a surround set up from the '70s and boy didn't they push the technology. I have to disagree with many comments regarding the different mixes for me the release of the 74 version on CD nailed it for me.
@gerardocarroll115810 ай бұрын
Adore this album, but I think it’s better listened to in its original vinyl mix, the mix Oldfield did in ‘76 sounds crap.

the uniworse is nowhere locked to any time constant being 432Hz or whatever! the human-made definition of what is a second in time is just another example of our arrogance!
