Pretty sure this was recorded at Hanover in 1981. Mike at his best, especially in the last 3:30. Sublime. I wish, oh so much, that there was video.

One of my all-time FAV Mike Oldfield compositions. And you know how it is when you hear one specific version 'first' and after that no other version is ever 'quite' as good !! So it was for me on hearing this 'live' version on the 'The Complete' double album, way back when :-)
@EzeePosseTV3 жыл бұрын
That's the exact same for me. Even though I first heard a small section of Part One used as the theme music to the 80's kids quiz show called "First Class", the first time I heard it in full was on the double album "The Complete" like you did. I love this version of Platinum and when I hear the actual original it doesn't sound right with the Synth instead of piano, lol. When I first heard the OG version I initially thought it was a cover version by a tribute band or something, lol
@IfUfindthisURlost2 жыл бұрын
@@EzeePosseTV Good grief... I remember First Class. Oldfield's music at the start was a highlight, though I think a re-recorded version, different to the original album - I shall go away and look it up.
@IfUfindthisURlost2 жыл бұрын
My mistake.... original album version. I think I thought it was different because I also heard the complete live version first... which is different.
@skepticus123 Жыл бұрын
@@EzeePosseTV Spot on. Paul Coia (the unruffled Scotsman) was the presenter of First Class I think - I too remember the little excerpts from Platinum (Airborne I believe) on that programme. I preferred the studio version for Airborne, but the live version for the North Star finale, which was the first version I heard, and which will always be the "proper" version for me. I remember listening to it over and over again on my Walkman when I went to visit my grandparents at Christmas - just such a cool piece of music.
@EzeePosseTV Жыл бұрын
@@skepticus123 That's quite cool. I didn't know Paul Coia was Scottish, I too am Scottish. Whenever I hear that piano and guitar riffs at the beginning, I always see the intro graphic animations in my mind play out. lol

Whereas any other composer of our times, (I am commenting end if April 2018) presuming he or she could come up with such musical wonders, would have probably made five different pieces out of all the material contained within this creation for the sake of commerciality, such is Mr Oldfield and so rich his repertoire, that he can afford to merge all these tunes into one single work of art. I take a bow to you, the likes of which just don't exist these days. Chapeau.

A mi me encanta Mike Oldfield.

Saludos.
@mototrailadventure27252 жыл бұрын
Curioso.
