Shortly after touring the skills floor in Bartle Hall, Mike Rowe was kind enough to speak with SkillsUSA for a few moments regarding the skills gap in America, the value of SkillsUSA, and what he thinks of SkillsUSA's slogan, "SkillsUSA: Champions at Work."
Mike was the keynote speaker during Wednesday's Opening Ceremony at SkillsUSA's 2013 National Leadership and Skills Conference.

Thank You Mike Rowe for explaining what our educational system in the USA has been missing for the past 20 years!

Currently a member of SkillsUsa and am in a Criminal Justice program and compete against many other students my age in this career field. Best organization out there to help my generation achieve their goals now, and in the future.

SkillsUSA taught me valuable vocational skills that I could not learn elsewhere. I cannot express how thankful I am for SkillsUSA being part of my life. I am a proud alumnus of one of the best organizations around. I am happy to help do my part to help other students continue learning valuable vocational skills that are necessary in our working world. #ChampionsAtWork #SkillsUSA

Mike is right on! Hard work and smart work is a very difficult combination to achieve. This is what we train for in our company. Teaching common sense and the vocational arts needs to be reinstated. I don't believe the unemployment rate is accurate. More so what is happening is the disconnect where people do not want to work or do the training that is required to excel at work.

There is more to life than a corner office and an expense account. Many of the products that evolve from the corner office end up in the clearance bin. Building and repairing are essential for living. What's more important are jobs that mean the difference between a third world country and a first world country.

While I'm with you on all aspects. It's not just the gap between white and blue it's the fact that the last 2 generations are more lazy if the app or a phone dosent do it for them. I laugh every day when I get a call to fix something so stupid and charge them 150.00 to change out a ceiling fan. You have to love lazy people. I make 1500 a week just on that issue alone. Keep America lazy they are special to me.
