It's a fun game. As a Giants fan... C: Buster Posey (Hitting 2nd) 1B: Willie McCovey (Hitting 5th) 2B: Jeff Kent (Hitting 9th) 3B: Matt Williams (Hitting 7th) SS: Brandon Crawford (Hitting 8th) LF: Barry Bonds (Hitting 4th) CF: Willie Mays (Hitting 1st) RF: Mel Ott (Hitting 3rd) DH: Orlando Cepeda (Hitting 6th) SP: Christy Matthewson SP: Juan Marichal SP: Carl Hubbell SP: Gaylord Perry SP: Tim Lincecum Swing: Madison Bumgarner Closer: Hoyt Wilhelm. Though if you want a more modern closer, I'd feel OK with prime Brian Wilson. He's not Mariano but few teams will rival the Yankees there.

I don't care how long he played. I would find a place for Don Mattingly. Great player.
@username-zj9id3 жыл бұрын
Why not put Mattingly at 1st and DH Gehrig? Mattingly was a MUCH better defender. And why does everyone forget about Rickey Henderson? Not a career Yankee but neither was Reggie. Solves the lead off problem!
@ellandecampbell62792 жыл бұрын
@@username-zj9id It's a joke (though not surprising) that Rickey doesn't get any consideration. He doesn't have longevity with the Yankees, or any "signature" postseason moments, so everything that he'd bring to the table (which would also include opening up the DH spot) is disregarded. Hell, if you put Rickey in the starting lineup, you could still use Reggie as a pinch hitter (especially against righties)
@username-zj9id2 жыл бұрын
@@ellandecampbell6279 I would take Rickey over Reggie any day of the week. Reggie was a .263 hitter with power and way too many strikeouts. This team has more than enough power. Rickey could do everything
@ellandecampbell62792 жыл бұрын
@@username-zj9id In his short time with the Yankees, he had 2 different seasons of 20+ home runs & 80+ steals. That's insane. His '85 season is arguably the most underrated season by a player in team history, & I think he should've won the MVP that year
@username-zj9id2 жыл бұрын
@@ellandecampbell6279 I agree he was underrated. He was with the team just about as long as Reggie, who is remembered mostly for 1 game.

dimaggio is a much more like 2nd man - a line drive type of hitter. mantle has way too much power to put him 2nd. it doesnt matter which order ruth, gehrig and mantle bat. but they are 3-4-5. ruth wasnt much of a fielder, was he ? one might consider making him the dh. if i recall, maris was an excellent fielder, so he could be rf, as a possibility. it boils down to do you want reggie's bat, or roger's glove ? i tend to go with the gloves. speed on the bases is a very minor issue. it may be important for a poor hitting team, but it certainly applies very little with this team !!
@t206kid4 жыл бұрын
You can also make a red sox argument with guys like ted williams, jimmie Foxx, Yastrzemski, Boggs, they had ruth too. Manny, papi, Nomar, Joe Cronin, and their pitching over the history was better with guys like lefty Grove, Smokey Joe wood, a better Clemens, Pedro,

A rod was a beast just look at the numbers especially early on
I had the YANKEES in a CADACO ALL-STAR "ALL-TIME" BASEBALL League. YEAH! With the Player Discs and the Spinner Dial!!! 1. JETER SS 2. CANO 2B 3. MANTLE RF 4. RUTH IF 5. GEHRIG 1B 6. DIMAGGIO CF 7. RODRIGUEZ 3B 8 BERRA C 9. NO DH Yes this team has tremendous power. But the problem was lots of strike outs. Inability to move runners. Not a lot of singles or extra base hits. I found myself waiting a lot for the Big HR but often times it came with the bases empty. Now look at the ALL-TIME REDS. 1. ROSE LF 2. MORGAN 2B 3. GRIFFEY JR CF 4. KLUZUSKI 1B 5. BENCH C 6. PEREZ 3B 7. FOSTER RF 8. LARKIN SS 9. NO DH Many more extra base hits. A lot less strike outs. Ability to steal bases. And there were always runners on base when they hit HRs

A-Rod won 2 MVP's with the Yankees. 2005 and 2007. Look at the numbers he put up in 2007. A-Rod's season in '07 was STATISTICALLY PROVEN to be one of the best hitting seasons by any Yankee ever. Your just biased because you don't like A-Rod.
