Agreeing so much. I was 14 when I got Hybrid Theory on cassette tape, and here I am, in my thirties, still with them. I'm amazed by this ability of his: no matter what is the situation, he makes art out of it, in such a natural way. Hard rock album, electric smash fest, sock puppets, stop-motion videos, art shows, absolutely anything. Somehow what he does helps the souls we carry connect to each other. That came out weird, but I hope it's understandable :)

Mike Shinoda's my idol because of his odd tastes. He's been my favorite since 2005 when he went solo with some of his projects. What's even cooler is the way his tastes inspire him and the way people assume that his music style would be closer to metal, but it's genuinely not.

It's like food or beer, life is boring if you limit your diet. Different moods, different musics. This is another downside to subscription/digital download; you used to be able to walk into someone's living room, check out their LP collection and you'd know what kind of person they were in a minute.
@evamoor23776 жыл бұрын
YES! I never understood the bitching about how nothing they make compares to Hybrid Theory. There would be no genuineness left in them if they kept repeating the same stuff until eternity. Drawbar, In my remains, Wretches and Kings...every album is packed with fucking treasures and I think this mindset is the thing that made that possible. It's such a relief to know that there are people out there who think like you.
@douglasmijangos33275 жыл бұрын
It’s funny how so many people hate on LP newer stuff and hate that they evolved so much ... c’mon it’s been like over 20 yrs since they’ve listen to them for the first time and they expect them to sound the same 🤦🏻♂️ I’m guessing those are the same people who hate on bands that don’t change their and and don’t evolve at all ... and bitch that they’re tired of listening to the same thing album after album.... 🤦🏻♂️

There are videos on KZbin of Linkin park in their early years in which Joe mentions Aphex Twin as an influence (I believe the making of the one step closer video is one of them, and the other is one of the vids with the Hybrid Theory rehearsals). Its always been the one element that makes their early work so special to me. It was never about how the songs were so much heavier and whatnot. To me, it was the atmosphere that was captured in the early Linkin Park songs that made them stand out, and if you pay attention to the sounds in those songs, thats straight up AFX style. It's cool to hear Mike talk about this stuff, it is an important part of Linkin Parks sound that seems to get overlooked a lot.

@TheAmateurEditor6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure he is doing all that well. You can see it in his eyes there's still a profound sadness and I recently saw one of his live concerts where he asked the audience to sing Chester's part when he performed In The End and he looked in pain, desperately trying to hold back the tears. I don't think he will ever be whole again.
@evamoor23776 жыл бұрын
Same feeling here...there's a hollowness to his eyes that wasn't there before. This is going to stay with him/them - but it's understandable, isn't it. Losing a loved one like that tears a hole in you that won't ever mend. I was on his Vienna gig a month ago and felt like he was putting up a smile sometimes because he wanted to feel good (or wanted us to feel good), not because he actually had a great time. In other parts of the show, we had so much fun. His concert is like an emotional roller-coaster, coming from a genuine, great, pretty much still hurting guy. I admire his bravery in exposing himself this way and hope it helps him heal.
@TheAmateurEditor6 жыл бұрын
I really do think Mike feels a lot of survivor's guilt. He knew Chester had his demons and he helped him create music that helped him and millions of others, including myself, but ultimately, it just wasn't enough. I can't begin to imagine what that must feel like, that you couldn't help someone so close to you from taking their lives. It's easy for us to say that Mike should be proud of how much he helped Chester while he was here and that without him, Chester might have died years ago, but I doubt that this is much of a consolation for Mike. Hopefully with time he will be able to look back and see that he helped Chester achieve so much in his short time in this world.
