My mother is Jane Woolverton and I knew Clifton since I was a little girl visiting my grandfather Freeland Woolverton there! I never understood why it was spelled differently in the song but it was a great song. I met all Clifton's children at the dedication of a wing on the church up there to my grandpa and Clifton in the late 90's & Clifton's home had burned. My grandfather married Clifton's sister in law, Bea, after my grandfather died. Merle Kilgore was her nephew.

Thanks for sending me this. Great to see the original Clifton Clowers. Certainly adds a dimension to the song.

That guy singing does a good job. He could pass for Randall Hank Williams aka Bocephus.

The song was about a man from Arkansas. My folks met him. My uncle told them for years that he knew Mr. Clowers and one time they went to Arkansas on vacation and he introduced them. He explained that his nephew was stuck living there one summer and out of boredom wrote this song.

Wow that was a great video...In my young life of 44 years, I had grown up when country music use to be played on AM side of the radio dial long before talk radio and satellite. I known the words and probably had heard it a hundred times. I never known the history of the song and that there was a "Clifton Clowers" Did he have a pretty young daughter? Doesnt matter now, I married . Thank you RattlerMan33

Is this just PR? Clifton Flowers was a Federal Judge working in Denver when this was written. His daughter was going to CU/Boulder at the time. There is a Wolverton Mountain outside of Boulder, CO. When he was asked about the song, he said his daughter had associated with quite a few college students about that time, he wasn't sure of their names. Which version is true?
