As a kid, I grew up surrounded with the Pacific Ocean in the Visayas, and mind you, in school our Social Studies class books with pictures where we learned about the Cordilleras Mountains, the Mountain Province, Banaue Rice Terraces, Baguio, the Ifugaos, even Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. This video reminds me of that time in class learning a lesson about Luzon where all these places are located. No wonder only a few people get to go where Chris took you - that is not for the usual traveller/tourist! I learned so much more from watching this. My mom is indigenous from the jungles of the Philippines. My Lolo, her father was the medicine man. Good video, but please people do not do this on your own without blessings and guides. Trampling thru sacred resting spots without permission can give you bad fortune and karma. There are many entities and interdimensional beings in the PI jungle that can harm you even after you go home. And that's a whole other can of worms to remove those spirits or misfortune. I'm so glad you finally posted this video! I've been looking forward to it ever since you first teased this adventure back in the summer. Haha, Chris' story about the toilet in the pig pen was not exactly how I thought your journey to the cliffs would start, but I guess when you're on your way to do something wild and unexpected like visit the hanging coffins of people's ancestors, it's the perfect way to start out! And the way he talked about the passing the body back and forth truly blew my mind. It may sound corny, but I LOVE the world we live in. It may be far from perfect, but it's hard to not see the beauty in experiencing new things, new people, and new, unseen wonders, no matter how strange they may seem at first glance. The silence around the 14-minute mark is SO powerful. Wow. Love the shot of the burning cigarette in front of the coffin. Even the trek to get to the caves and back seems like quite the experience! I honestly could have watched an hour of this, Mike. Such a cool, and oddly beautiful adventure. The last time that i visited my village in 2012 after i left in 1979 is totally different, people no longer live in houses roofed with grass but made of Galvanized Iron sheets, wood or concrete, now with electricity and flushed toilets too.

It's both creepy and cool!...😄 You're true fearless!...Good thing nothing unexplainable thing happened to you and your body when you explored the caves because you disturbed the deads' final resting place. Chris was thoughtful to give a short prayer and a cigarette for them. With that, maybe you may also want to visit the fire mummies in Kabayan, Benguet when you go back to the PHL. If the Igorots in Sagada hanged the dead bodies of their ancestors in cliffs, Ibalois of Kabayan perform mummification by means of fire to their ancestors before putting them inside the caves.
@fearlessandfar6 жыл бұрын
The original plan was to go there actually! Then I changed it last minute to see Whang Od, and Sagada. When I go back, I will 100% see the mummies there. So many unbelievable things to see in the Philippines 🇵🇭

That was one heck of an adventure you had there! Extremely cool! I was at first apprehensive of seeing another hanging coffin video since it's a little too common after a while. But dude, you've proven me wrong! That was an extremely epic and informative video dedicated not only to the hanging coffins' history itself but also the culture and tradition that had been skimmed over a lot in the past. Those overgrown and tricky paths were indeed left to nature for so long and you've given us a glimpse of that hidden part of history. I wonder for how long had it been preserved from the current world? If it had been visited before in the past years, obviously it hadn't been by outsiders of that community. I've been spellbound by the whole series, specially this one! That trekking and spelunking got me giddy for an adventure! Truly never before seen!
@fearlessandfar6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, and I'm happy you appreciated the adventure! I saw so many videos of the coffins already, and really thought there must be a bigger story, and a better experience. I was so happy to meet Chris, he really unlocked this special experience for me. I asked him if he knew of any more sites, and he went to ask villages elders for me. It turned out great. Some of those places people haven't been in 10 years I swear. I was very powerful being there. I appreciate this beautiful comment, thanks again!

The cooolest guide!! Welcome to sagada indeed! The way to the coffins was out of this world - there wasnt even a trail! It is a normal thing among the cordillerans to greet the spirits and invite them for something (eat, drink or for your case, have a smoke) and ask permission to stay and roam around the place Even now when we visit our departed loved ones, we bring gin and cigars - my grandparents loved to drink and smoke 😀
@fearlessandfar6 жыл бұрын
