If i remember correctly, they only lost to War elephants, Elephant archers, Boyars, Leitis, Konniks and Coustelliers. Otherwise they won it all. That trample damage did wonders.

I feel like they should be treated as anti-infantry Hussars with some immunity against trash units in exchange for cost and speed. Regular knight/heavy cav tactic doesn't work that well especially against ranged units

Im always tempted to play as Byzantines as I really like playing Defensively and overwhelming late game with a good economy and fully upgraded military but Byzantines dont seem to be too great for it however I do like their unit

They lack some upgrades to compensate their strength, byzantine is a defensive civ so their offensive is their cheap units and cataphracts leading the charge

@@ThuanNguyen26090 They were indeed strong at their time 22 years ago, but with newer civs with better bonuses, the Byzantines tend to be left behind.

Mamlukes should hit and run to take out the cataphracts. That is what I do in the campaign especially #4.

Yup, that's the whole niche of the cataracts, you already have a discount on anti cav, anti archers, and there's anti infantry with them, and ohboi do they specialize in that

I feel like the Cataphracts are for late war games. When your opponent runs low on gold and has to resort to trash units to attack because from what I have seen, they are more like Cavaliers "lite" because of their inferior performance but fortunately has anti-cav armor to back it up
