Mike, you really have the knack to explain and review useful tools that expand one’s capabilities. Such as reminding the viewers that you need equipment to move the log and get it up on the mill. No sense buying more mill than your logs or equipment need/can use. All the best to you 👍👍😎👍👍

I bought a Woodland HM 122 a couple years ago. Really like it seems well made. Customer service is great. I've maxed it out a couple of times. Still did the job. I'm very happy with the mill. I have the 7 horse power Kohler motor. Bob

A friend and I went in on a hm22 mill and opted for the trailer. I'm 6' 4" and working on the ground is hard on my back. We also have the luxury of a tractor to place logs on the mill. It's been a great mill for the last three years and we've put just 60 hrs on it so far. I have found that the blade tightening system is superb. made marks on it in the beginning and I've checked it with the torque wrench each spring and no adjustment necessary.. The legs on the trailer have kind of small pads so we put flat blocks under them on setup and it remains pretty stable. I'm glad to hear your positive review with your experience with other mills.

I have a cousin that tried to build a sawmill, but he didn't use a truck axle for his drive wheel. He used a CV axle, and the wheel moved when he would start to cut. The blade guides came off a stripped down x-ray machine, and were used for rotation of the head. The bearings were well made, and worked on the blade very nicely. He wound up selling it, and I met the new owner at a lumber store, while he was shopping for supplies.

Good advice there bud, I was an ex carpenter, joiner and machinist (re saw mainly) for furniture etc. Think what you want to do and make a plan, so you can either buy what you need or buy the components and ask the experts on the net if you are not sure. Never forgetting not to run until can walk properly as missing bits will not grow back. Keep safe all, from us in the UK.

Looks like a smart bit of kit, they clearly thought about their end user and fostering brand loyalty. One thing that caught my was the tube to store the instruction manual affixed to the mill, on of those details that shows they considered how people use things.

I loved my hm122 so much , I went and bought the trailer which comes with the 6foot extension and added the ramp and winch...I love this machine I have had it for a year and I don't buy any lumber anymore

I used the metal crate to build a rolling miter saw stand. They have really improved the 122 since I got mine, I immediately upgraded mine to have the top angled piece using tubing. Also…. The cheap (Or it was when I got it) hf or northern trailer kit…. I chopped the axle and narrowed it and used the rest of the components of the trailer kit and two long straight square tubes to make a trailer for it. With your Langmuir you could do it faster too…. The 9.5 is the way. And extension was the way too. So I have a 20ft trailer that is integral to the rails …. 20 feet of track means you can reliably get 16 foot lumber. Anyway as long as you have a really flat piece of concrete you can safely align everything and tack it to the tubing and trailer stuff. Just don’t forget to strap the saw head down to the track for trailing it around

Yes I just cut a bunch of Cedar for interior ceiling boards 👍 definitely would have cost at least $300 or $400. Definitely will pay for itself this year.

That's really cool Mike, it's a total bargin price and in some sense it is very logical to go and just buy one rather then try to sort out all the kinks and stuff building your own. I ended up paying about 1k for my mill, but the cheapest mill i could buy locally was about 5k. This looks like a very good mill for ~3k, wish we had the same options here in Estonia then you guys have there in the States, looks like you have about atleast 70% more of everything.

It seems like the whole of Europe region has this issue with availability and affordability. If you want to buy common tools to do a very simple job, you have to spend a pile of money.😮 But if wanted to do equivalent projects like Mike you would like to spend several thousand to do only the basics.😊

I got the 126 3 years ago. The reason I chose it is because of the pound per dollar ratio, the most saw for the dollar. You really appreciate the weight when it hits a hard knot. I would not even try Harbor Fright now.

Just the fact it doesn't have booger welds all over is a good sign, but little things like a drain plug extension says alot. You wouldn't have ever gotten that on a Crapsmen 😆 Great detailed video. One day, I WILL NEED one of these 🤞

love the video. i noticed that the nut that came lose was because the bolts are not long enough for the plastic part of the nut to tread which is what makes the nut a locking nut. maybe when i buy mine if it is the same way i will buy longer bolts.

Sweet Mike. I still like your homemade but this is cool to do what your after with it. Cut yourself some log stops the same square size out of hardwood and use them when cutting some stuff like edging boards. If you accidentally hit it no big deal. And can also draw lines on it with black marker like you said. Thanks for the video. Good luck. 👍

Always wondered, now I know, about the quality and origin of the materials used in this Woodland Mills saw ( and other equipment that these folks offer ) (( all the metric sized hardware, it kind of tells you where it came from, AND, apparently this one's worth the money )) Bear in mind folks, that there`s nothing at all wrong with metric sized equipment, it`s just that a lot of people in the US and elsewhere, are not quite yet used to it.

Great review mike. I was hoping we would see it mounted on the trailer with the tractor. I’m also looking to purchase this exact same setup for our small farm. We are clearing a bunch of area and I need to pull up a bunch of pine.. possible poll barn build , along with some fencing and animal out buildings.

This mill will be perfect for what you are looking to do with it. I do recommend buying the track extension when purchasing the mill, they don’t charge anymore for shipping for them if shipped out with the mill. If you order them later they charge $200 for shipping out the extensions. Take care 😊👍

@@1620GarageAndFarm the original Blade that shipped with the mill only lasted 3.5 hours before it broke, I think the original one shipped with the mill is definitely not good quality. But I would think the ones sold from Woodland is probably better quality. I have links for a 5 pack of Woodmizer blades on my video, I ordered a pack and I should be trying them out soon. 👍the Woodmizer 5 pack is only about $115 with free shipping.

Ive never bought a sawmill, but I have had some large crates delivered and EVERY TIME the crate looks intact upon arrival and I sign off on it as being damage free; and then when I take it apart I realize the crate was damaged but the trucker had put more packaging around the outside to hide the damage.

Harbor Freight saw comes in the same metal angle iron crate, actually heavier than what your WM came in. Both the WM and HF are great lower end saws.

i have a chainsaw with mill and a few bars, etc that i have $3K to $4k invested in. Granted i can saw 58 inches, i cant produced boards in any useful capacity to build a structure. That's a great deal to be able to own a band sawmill.

Yes when I’m finished milling I take the tension off the blade, this helps from keeping belts from compressing and takes the load off the bearings and blade. Thanks for checking out my videos 👍

What do you think about just buying the head and putting your own rails in for the length you want?

28:50.. You can see that the "dipping" is because your rails are sagging into the mud about 3/4 of the way down. You can see it better if you play in 2x or 4x speed. But those posts on the right/center are sinking every time you push the saw over them. (28:50)

The location is temporary, I level the track after each log. The track got shifted and wasn’t level. The boards came out fine. The dipping I mentioned wasn’t this, the dipping I was referring to was about dull blades especially in knots.

In the future I may look into a stator for the engine to see if I can ad one to put out 12 volts. I do think adding a power lift would be really easy on this mill.

I would suggest to mill some 6x6” beams and set the mill on them. I did the very minimum in this video to set it up and I definitely recommend someone a bit more solid. I plan on milling some bigger beams for the base this fall. I think you will really enjoy owning a sawmill 😊👍
