I've seen them live 3 times, I've bought their album on LP (yeah, I am that old, sue me), cd, and streamables, I've gifted this album to other people, I've bought this album like 15-16 times. There was a rock radio show in Sweden which basically announced that there is this band Queensrÿche and that the've dropped this album Operation: Mindcrime, and just shut up and aired the the entire album in one go, no announcement, no commercials, no nothing, just Queensrÿche for about an hour, uninterrupted.

I have seen Queensryche 13 times and every time have been blown away by Geoff’s voice and charisma on stage. I got the chance to meet him before a concert. I was too scared to ask for a pic with him, so somebody yelled out, “Geoff, she wants a picture with you!” He turned around and gave me one of his grins and said “ Sure” then put his arm around me! I think I went to heaven at that point,lol. Then at the concert I was about 50 feet from the stage(small venue), he looked at me once or twice and give the same grin. I swear, the best concert I have ever been to! It is too bad kids now will never know the feeling of an arena concert or even a small venue concert because of everything going on. I am so glad I grew up in the 80’s and was able to go to them.

I'd argue that, given longevity and being able to keep their voice, Michael Kiske is better, IMO. They were neck and neck, and he and Kai Hansen/Weikath were just as formidable a writing team.

FatalPies Keep telling yourself that. Midnight was a lot better. Here is why. I put the “Painted Skies” vocal up against anything Tate has ever sang. Cant compare. As a bonus ass kicking to Tate I will crank “Lost Reflection.” That level of emotional singing is unmatched by anyone. Tate never could convey raw emotion on the level Midnight could so easily. To further prove my point. Imagine Tate singing Crimson Glory songs. Now.... imagine Midnight singing QR songs. Okay, I am done.

This performance is even more amazing because it was the very last song of their set. And it was also their second concert of the afternoon, so Geoff had already been performing for almost four hours straight, with just a short break in the middle, before singing like THAT.

Chris Cornell was also one of David Kyle's students. Also, late vocal Instructor Al Koehn from Floida studied under Maestro Kyle. And one of Al's students was Midnight from Crimson Glory. @@masonb9788 Summer of 1985 I was 14 and a group of us kids hung out all summer and smoked cigs (stupid) and listened to heavy metal. We were like the outcasts as metal wasn't hip or popular mainstream. I was introduced to alot of bands during that time and Queensryche The Warning (before they got popular with Operation Mindcrime) album was one of them. I knew about Maiden back in 83 when I was 12, but that summer Queensryche, Metallica, Megadeth, Motley Crew, Accept, Dokken, Dio, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, and the list goes on and on. That summer was a hallmark in my life.

@@danieldavis1028 did you have Z-Rock in your area? It was a commercial radio station that played only heavy metal. (the heavier stuff that wasn't on the mainstream stations). Good times! There were hardly any kids that liked the heavy stuff in my town, I had a few friends, that was it. It wasn't until senior year that suddenly everyone loved bands like Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Motley Crue.. we were ahead of the curve!

GFY 1 I didn’t get to see them the first time till 1986, But me and my best friend waited in the backstage area with all the hot girls. When the road manager started hooking up the girls with backstage passes, we lied and told him my older brother went to school with Scott, so he hooked us up! We were the only guys to go back. All the food and booze we could want, hung out with the whole band for over an hour, got all autographs on one of their set lists (a roadie made fun of us for not having pen and paper, so he hooked us up) Geoff bummed half a pack of smokes from me over the hour or so, and I tripped over some guys foot who was sitting talking to Chris, and it was The blond guitar player from Whitesnake. Real nice fella. Ended up watching AC/DC from the side of the stage.

I found this on the internet that he said in an interview, “Over the 30 years that Queensryche has been together, Tate has learned to care for his legendary four-octave vocal range. “I’m pretty fortunate - I have a very strong voice, and I started out very early in my teens taking voice training. I started using opera techniques, and it really helped me maintain my voice throughout a performance.”

I saw them here in Milwaukee WI when they did the taping for the Livecrime video, just an amazing show. I just saw Geoff Tate last year when he did the 30th anniversary of Operation: Mindcrime (31st actually). His daughter is the singer of the opening band and she came out to sing the part that was done by Pamela Moore on the album which was really cool. Before all the bands started cancelling because of COVID he played Empire in its entirety to mark the 30th anniversary of that album along with Rage For Order in its entirety.

Just saw this in my feed and thought, “oh good God...another reaction to Take Hold of the Flame Live from Tokyo.” But I watched it anyways, because I can’t ever tire of this performance. It’s one of the greatest vocal performances of my lifetime, and I’m 51. The only other I could say that is right there is Rob Halford singing Victim of Changes on Unleashed in the East. Anyways, thank for the actual insight and analysis. I’ve always said I wish someone would break these things down and talk about what is actually being done...not just on the surface. I subscribed 👍

I saw these guys in 1986 with a Japanese band called “loudness“ and Motley Crue. It was my first concert and Tate appeared out of the darkness with his face painted white and blew the roof of the building along with my mind. People were throwing stuff at loudness and motley did not even compare. To top it off, they showed up at a friend’s dive bar called “Bangers” and I got to meet and party with them the rest of the night. Unforgettable

Saw them in '03 with Dream Theater. Amazing! The duet of Comfortably Numb was great. I remember Tate getting up on stage asking us all "are you taking care of yourselves?". He obviously did and has to be able to pull this off. Both bands were quality true professionals who cared about delivering a beautiful musical experience.

I remember catching a towel from the singer from Helloween. I thought it was the coolest thing until I got home. I had this generic towel, no band logo on it just the singers sweat. Its not something I could put in a frame or display in a cool way. “Hey Man, tell me about that towel!!!!” I ended up putting it in with my laundry and it just became another everyday towel in the bathroom. Still its cool to get something from a band to take home. I got a few guitar pics, drumsticks and other odds n ends from other shows. A much cooler souvenir than a towel lol.

This song has long been one of my favs. When they did the Rage for Order tour they did a signing at a local record store - I took THIS album instead and got it signed (I also bought Rage - great album) By pure chance I was one of the last 5 people they let in before they left so I got to chat with them for about 5 minutes as opposed to "Hi, thanks for the autograph - see you at the show". They were very friendly and engaging even though they were obviously VERY tired at this point and needed to get some sleep before the show that evening. The show was Awesome btw..:) One of the best live bands IMHO.

I have a similar story...had meet and greet passes for a show on the HITNF tour...each band member could not have been nicer, and answered each question as if it was the first time hearing it. Chris was super engaging, and Geoff just as laid back as possible. Great memory.

Perhaps a subnote to this: to all the younger guys&girls thinking "well, our generation pop-singers can sing that too"... don't underestimate the fact: NO AUTOTUNE - NO IN EAR MONITORING... just pure soundpressure pounding out of oldschool 12" speakers ... and energy on stage - still hitting all the notes and cutting through a full blasting rockband. Not to mention the rhythmic stuff this band did and does.

I love your channel and your reactions. Tate is a total beast of a vocalist, wish i could have seen him live. If you are looking for reaction ideas for tracks that have a strong vocalist, and an awesome track then I can recommend Michael Kiske, He's German and been doing this for over 30 years and his voice is as good today as it was when he started Unisonic - Exceptional - Live at Wacken Open Air 2016 or Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys (United Alive) - however this track is quite long

Queensryche with Tate was a real game-changer in the metal world. Mr. Tate is a great vocalist. A tip would be to check out Kings X and their song "Dogman". Doug Pinnick has a really great rock voice too...

Doug Pinnick is s a talent, no doubt, but I always thought Ty Tabor was exceptional as well. His solo on Prisoner is one of the best and most underrated I have ever heard.

I just listened to Marco Hietala, from his new solo album, doing Song of My Father, both in English and the original Finnish. I would beg you to listen to this song in the Finnish version. Singing in his native tongue, it feels more emotional and powerful. His voice is absolutely gorgeous here....beautiful baritone.....The official video.....wonderful...

He almost "changes" his voice in songs like "One and Only" (kind of like Paul McCartney on "Get Back"). Empire he was exploring his vocal space to new places. Especially on "Promised Land", but I missed those higher registers to accent everything.

He has been been Noted as Being Barritone... NOW he can't hit It HIGH but That is because his approach takes a toll (As Per Another Respectable Coach Spoke of) Basically There is a "shelf life" to using his voice like THAT... @EccentricSage Todd La Torre is an excellent singer. Probably the best replacement for Geoff Tate from a vocal perspective. From a chemistry standpoint, Meh, when Chris left in '97 and Geoff left in '12 they took the chemistry with them. And... i just remembered the first song Geoff Tate wrote was "The Lady Wore Black"
