I block up a window that was being flooded, I used a fast drying cement and finished it in a couple hours. All my videos are my ways and ideas, I always suggest anyone doing any type of work to consult professional help.

Amazing... When I saw Mike pop in a piece of brick as a wedge in the block joints I had to smile. The times I've done what I always thought to myself... 'what a novice fix'...sort of embarrassing. But now that a pro has done it; I feel a lot more professional. The hints about setting these jobs up dry at first and the extensive finish use of sponges is an expansion on techniques I see the older mason guys use but hadn't thought it through myself to the degree Mike has. Very informative!

I'm glad to know that even with your experience, even you have problems sometimes. I blocked up an old fireplace a month ago and wet the edges and used the right type of mortar; I had all types of problems! I dry fitted everything first, allowed space for mortar, and the day I blocked it up, the blocks were too big. The most aggravating problem I had was, putting the last block in and it slid back too far. I would have had to tear the top row out to retrieve it. So instead of worrying about it, I just mortared over top of it since it wouldn't be seen anyway.

I have two bsmt windows in a lower level of a multi level home, the wells both fill up and leak like crazy because there is no vertical weeper, plus the grade isnt that great around the home. We want to close off both, one will be covered by a future deck and we want to relocate some hvac exhaust where the other window is, what are your thoughts on completely sealing that lower level, there is a furnace and in the future a bathroom for that level, there will never be any bedrooms there, and will not be finally finished ever. Also, its a poured foundation, I was thinking about forming and pouring concrete to seal it, with rebar and possibly a mortise/tenon notch to lock in the concrete, a little overkill? Apreciate your thoughts, great videos
@MikeHaduck

The only problem with watching your videos is: You make it look so easy! I know some of those small jobs probably are, but I know that actually laying block for a structure requires a higher level of expertise than I possess. Ie pump house or shed stem wall we are the about same age. I did construction for 10 over years 25 years ago, but then went to school to be a nurse. Now I long to work outside again! Or maybe I just want to do things around other guys..... I think that may be the real truth

SO i have a dumb question. I understand the outside potion of this, but on the inside how would one put in the layer of block to finish the inside wall to look flush along with the the rest of the inside foundation wall. I want to block in 2 below grade window wells, but wanted to have the cinder block match on the inside. ON the inside there is a slight concrete slope acting as the window ledge. Im in PA, would you be willing to give me an estimate...
