I remember reading somewhere that the reason that Picard's fate was left ambiguous at the end of Best Of Both Worlds Part 1 was that, due to contract negotiation issues, Patrick Stewart staying for another season was not a sure thing. So it'd be a chance to kill Picard off if an agreement couldn't be reached. Unsure if there's any truth to that or if it's just rumours, although it makes some sense at least...

This whole Borg thing could have been solved by an away team armed with actual firearms instead of energy weapons who's discharge can be turned can be turned with an electromagnetic field. Remember that Picard later figured that out when he used a Thompson gun to burn down those 2 Borg that followed him into the holodeck in 'First Contact'.
@celebrim14 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the Borg would have just as quickly adapted to that as well, which Picard admits in the same movie. The actual irresistability of the Borg was toned down considerably, ironically beginning with First Contact and the introduction of a 'Borg Queen'.

This cube pretty much bee lined straight to Earth and was faster than any starship in the starfleet roster including the Enterprise. The home defence fleet during peace time only consisted of around 12 ships, most of which joined up with any nearby vessels that could get to Wolf 359 in time and they made their stand there. 39 Starfleet vessels were destroyed. The smaller vessels like seen at the Mars defence grid that couldn't make it to 359 engaged as the cube passed through and were consequently destroyed.

The Borg believed that the highest form of life was one that married organic and cybernetic life. As such, they did not see Data as alive at all or as necessary, since they were capable of doing what he could do as an innate part of their collective consciousness and he had no organic parts - nothing living as they defined it. The Borg would have have seen independent AI as worth assimilating, though they would have assimilated his positronic technology into their own if it could be used to improve their collective computing power. To them Data is 'primitive' in the sense that a higher lifeform would not need a computing device to assist it, since it would be already fully integrated with a higher life forms being. To the Borg, Data was an impressive example of digital calculator, but he was only a fancy calculator.
