The defensive plus minus isn’t always as relevant as the numbers suggest. The Celtics may have been better defensively when IT sat, but no one was scoring either, their next highest scorer was Avery Bradley with like 16ppg. You’re not winning games when the rest of the starters give you 50 points accumulatively. The fact IT took that team as far as he did is just incredible.

I just remembered how good IT was the year before and thought he could produce offensively just as much as kyrie did, but he was just never the same after that year.

Die hard Celtics fan here. Been riding with the team since their worst season on record in 1997. IT4 was one of the most likable/electric players I’ve seen in my nearly 30 years as a fan. That 2017 season was incredible and he was the only reason we were competitive during it. Danny Ainge made the right business decision for the team but it definitely was scummy. I was really hoping Brad would sign IT this year as a depth piece to potentially help with our title run and get a ring. But yeah this man needs additional compensation from Boston.

We'll never know the truth of the Celtics' assessment but only IT4 has the best interests to play through it because he's due for a max, which he said "bring on the brinx truck" in public multiple times. So maybe he chose to do it while he knew very well he's not going to get a max from Celtics but show enough to get a big contract elsewhere. Stevens knew they'll not win a championship with IT4 due to his defensive liabilities. Kyrie wanted out while Cavs just wanted to get their 1st pick.
