Another great video, informative and nice to watch ! IMHO in low contrast scenes noise can be bothersome even at low ISO. If there is sufficient contrast but overall low light, I’m not afraid to jack up ISO to 6400 or 12800 and in some cases I have managed reasonable shots at 25600, all passed through DXO denoise

It is a point that is missed is high iso works looks beter in good light. Same as when we pushed film in the old days.

My how technology has advanced! I too started with Kodachrome 64 (and even 25!), and the Ektachrome blue cast!. It was all landscape and "esoteric BS" art shots. Lot's of fun. But now it's birds, and the new mirrorless, DXO, LR etc. Thanks for a great video!

I have had some very successful images taken at 12800 ISO with the Lumix G9 processed with DXO Photolab. But a key factor is shutter speed. The slower the shutter speed the more noise there is. ISO 12,800 at a 30th is mush - at over 1/2000 the results can be excellernt.

Excellent. I am amazed at the noise reduction from DXO. I use Photolab 7 and now regularly use higher iso, a change from the velvia days!

Hi mike very interesting video as you say when photographing birds in flight the light helps the jays when you get the sun on them they are a stunning bird I have just been photographing them in flight and got some nice shots at iso 650 4000 shutter speed at F4 the winter sun came out which helped a lot pre capture on my R1 Is amazing

I agree DxO is best for denoising high ISO (I'm a Canon shooter). Last year in Scotland we had a very poor year weather wise, yet BBC tell us it was the "warmest year on record." Something not right!

Mike I have the OM-1 & 150-400 combo. When holding the camera/lens or on tripod there is slight movement/play on the lens mount, is this normal. Have contacted OM system am awaiting response. Thanks in advance. Gary

Hi Gary, It is not right, but it does happen. Mounts wear. I have had the problem for decades, with my Canon gear as well as Olympus/OM. If you use your gear a lot and change lenses frequently wear occurs. Recently I had to send my 150-400mm to OM cameras in Portugal for a different problem. They changed the mount while it was there as they must have noticed some wear. I hope you are under warrenty as the cost is obscene. £800 plus! You could try Luton camera repairs who can change it cheaper, but are no longer able to get spare parts so unless they have old stock they are stuck. OM no longer sell parts to independant repairers. A huge problem!

@ both less than 7 months old Mike since getting the 150-400 in July last year from OM systems it happened from the first day not having used the combination before I thought it odd , it works fine photographically but I spoke to someone who had one who said it doesn’t happen with his. Since purchasing the combo I haven’t taken it off the camera. I took out a five year warranty on the lens so should be OK it just seemed odd it never happens with my other 3 pro lenses, before contacting OM system I did try it with my other lenses they are all fine. Just have to wait for them to get back to me. Thanks for responding, regards Gary. PS your channel is fantastic and very informative.

The weather here (Germany) is shit too. In order to photograph birds in flight the ISO has to be very high and that works fantastically with the OM1II, the 150-600 and DXO...as you can see from your photos.

Agreed! The weather is shiite! Of course its cleared up with lovely frosty weather now and you guessed it who's busy with work and life admin? I've personally been very happy with the "high" iso on the Lumix G9M2 even going as high as 20,000! Video is much more forgiving for iso than photos though.
